Wow................the truck just ran onto the shoulder and hit him?! Sounds a lot like River Road between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Sorry to hear this. Saban and LSU folks thought very highly of him and his work. Good man.

I know it is sad and I feel for his family, but there are so many jokes that I just thought of about this. Does that make me a bad person?

Grooters was riding his bicycle east on the paved shoulder of State Road 20, west of State Road 77 near the rural community of Crystal Lake, when he was hit by a Chevrolet pickup about 8:55 a.m.

The pickup, driven by Eddie Hogg, 41, of Molino, drove onto the shoulder of the road and hit the back of Grooters' bike, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

I would go after him for premeditated murder.
Look into whether he made comments about the trek to raise money in bars or eateries. Settle for manslaughter.

Put him away for a few years.

the real tragedy is that this guy will get off with something like probation.

AFter all he just hit a cyclist, its not like it was a real person or anything.

I travel RR between BR and NO a lot, cycling along that stretch is suicidal. I know the 'we have just as much right to the road as the cars' BS and that is little consolation to the survivors. RR is a lot plant workers and industrial traffic, it is full of curves and blind spots and in most places, very little shoulder.
