I was watching "A Time To Kill" a few days ago, and I was taken aback by McConaughey... he actually gave a decent dramatic acting performance ("Reign of Fire" isn't bad either).

I know he has a bit of an "aw shucks" southern schtick, but he could have really had a great career by choosing more interesting roles.

How did he devolve into inane rom-coms? Is he just a paycheck actor? He really could have been something.

That's where the money was.

He's a decent actor, but when it boils down it, I can't fault the guy for allowing himself to be pigeonholed if it feeds his kids.

"Surfer, Dude" is seriously one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I couldn't finish it.

He seems to be doing it the way a lot of us would like to if we could. Just make a movie once in a while and chill the rest of the time. Still making a lot of money and doesn't have to be constantly working and doing the tons of interviews and appearances that go with each film.

I wouldn't call it wasted .... he is a working actor worth millions that likes to surf, watch football and hang out with his hot lady in Malibu.

It's hard to blame him for one paycheck movie a year and let Bale, Leo and the rest duke it out for the awards.

read an article on him awhile back in the airport...he knows that's what he is and has no problem with it. It affords the guy an amazing life of travel and experiences, which is pretty much what he wants.

He and his girlfriend (maybe wife now) and kid spend a ton of time going around in the RV through the desert from texas to cali. He's gone and lived with tribes in africa for months at a time. And he's the voice for the beef commercials. The dude is cool as shite.

This, the guy gets easy as hell movies where he just has fun with friends and hooks up with some hot co-star.

We saw the stress acting can have on Ledger. I would absolutely take the McConaughey path and laugh my way to the bank and an awesome quality of life. I don't need to be battling it out with Leo and DDL.

There was a great extra on the DVD for the original Chainsaw Massacre in which they discussed Next Generation.

Renee Zellweger was in Jerry Maguire after the Chainsaw sequel came out, and Matthew McConaughey was in A Time to Kill. Columbia Pictures was responsible for the distribution of the Chainsaw sequel, but they also did Jerry Maguire. So they intentionally pushed the release of the Chainsaw movie for years because it would hurt Zellweger in Jerry Maguire.

Since McConaughey blew up in A Time to Kill, his agency leaned on Columbia to not release the movie at all. CAA represented him, and Columbia didn't want to piss them off because they had so many great actors under their roof.

All said, it took four years after shooting before you could even get a VHS copy of that Chainsaw Massacre sequel.

Frailty is an awesome movie.

Great director's commentary by Paxton on the DVD.
