If you win on an untimed play there is no need to kick, just like overtime

Not exactly. If the point differential is 1 or 2, then, as a poster above said, the rule requires a try, because it is possible for the defensive team to block the try (or a snap is fumbled, or whatever) and if the defensive team gets the ball and carries it to the opposite end zone, they score 2 points and can win or tie the game. It was only because the Tennessee team had left the field that the refs opted not to enforce the rule.

I guess Dooley can't complain to the officials because he took his team off the field.

And no the NFL does not make them kick extra points at the end of the game either.

Because the NFL does not allow for the defending team to score on a botched extra point.

That's the ONLY reason they were going to make them do it, because of the point differential. The officials said this at the game.

In overtime, if you just scored a TD then you are up by 6 and a returned PAT would only be 2 so it is irrelavant. In the Pros, you cannot win in OT by anything other then 6, 3 or 2.

Just like in overtime, it wasn't necessary. That would have been cruel to drag those kids back out there just to kick the extra point....

Finally found out what happen from a Vol fan close to the program. An official went to the Vols locker room to get Dooley to play the extra point and Dooley said he was keeping his team in the locker room.

I think Dooley lost his cool big time over this.
