also debunked in a PDF posted earlier in this thread called 'eat stop eat'.

this article is pretty spot on.

the only thing i disagree on, is that i cannot push out the watts required for a 2-3 hour workout my coach prescribes in cycling while fasting. i've failed twice to get through all of the training intervals at my FTP (functional threshold of power) if i don't eat something before or during the workout when i'm coming in on 12-20 hours of non-eating.

i agree if you're doing 15-20 minutes of strength training that fasting won't have an impact..but it has a major impact when you are on a trainer that is tuned to match your max power and you're doing 3-5 minute max-FTP+ intervals..no way you can finish without eating something or having to drop your wattage threshold on the trainer late in the session..and then you just look like a little girl plus you've wasted the training by not finishing strong.

but what advantage is there to fasting as opposed to eating the same number of calories in any given week ?

there's a great 'burn down' chart in that eat-stop-eat pdf (and online i believe) that shows a dramatic logarythmic fat-burning curve that occurs in hours 16-24 in a one-day fast. in fact i think i linked the image in this thread.

the curve is flat before..and flat after. the theory being that you don't need to kill yourself fasting for longer than a 24 hour period yet still get the 'sweet spot' for rapid fat burning.

following that approach, you can eat dinner..then eat dinner again the next day and still manage a 24 hour fast without the uncomfort of going to bed with hunger pains. i've done it both ways and its no fun trying to get to sleep when you're really hungry.

It happens IRL, it happens on here.. And every time I pull out the line about our ancestors running around with bread in their hands and every time they're stumped, but they say some dumb crap just to retort.. or they pull out the "they had shorter lifespan" routine, which is another crappy, pulling-at-straws reasoning.

I can tell you exactly how an argument goes down between carbers vs low carbers each and every time. And it's only worse when the people you are arguing against are a knowledgeable like busey is. He just KNOWS that carbs are NECESSARY and VITAL!!

Wow pretty nutty on the OT with the anti-low carb. Oh well to each his own and starting the discussion makes people think. Maybe they will do some research of their own, except Busey

Busey is a good guy. IIRC he studies kinesiology or something in the medical field, so he is more educated in nutrition and stuff than your average joe schmoe.. but I think it makes him super self-assured in what he believes is healthy. I've gone back and forth with him a few times now.. it always ends civilly, and he knows how to debate without resorting to name calling and such.

He acts like it's super easy to just "burn more calories than you eat".. I don't think he fully understands the psychii of a fatty...

One FINAL week to go!

All time low this morning....

161.7!

I need to drop 1.8 this week so I can temporarily crack the 159 barrier.

I see some Senna Tea in my future to crack that number.

Haven't weighed in a few days. Starting on 3rd week of eating healthy(er) and working out. Mainly just cutting down on calories and eating healthier food plus a good bit of cardio. It's always funny to me because my wife thinks I just mysteriously lose a ton of weight so EASY. I just laugh and tell her there isn't anything easy about it. Just got to get my mind right.

Did my first IF yesterday. Did the 6pm to 6pm 24 hour with water only. Wasn't terrible. Capped it off with subway. Wasn't as hungry as I thought, although once I ate, I wanted to EAT. But, I didn't over do it. Will do another one Friday or Sat. Suprisingly felt pretty energetic the last 3 or 4 hours.
So far the hardest thing for me is staying away from the Beer right now.
We'll see how it goes.

i'm on a low carb, not paleo. and, i'm really trying not to go crazy (though my wife would disagree). i want this to be a lifestyle change. Although I think Paleo maybe the best method, I don't think I could maintain it once I reach my desired health/weight.

So, I'm adjusting and going with something that I feel like I can continue for the rest of my life (hopefully).

Oh ok, I thought you were on paleo. Be careful, beans are deceptively high in carbs if you're trying to do low carb. How many carbs are you considering taking in a day?
