What happened to knee, thigh, hip and butt pads?

The players now a days could just play in shorts...I read about numerous thigh contusions, hip injuries etc...
Yea, makes sense..players wore them for years for a reason...

the NFL doesn't require players to wear leg padding. The only players that don't ofter wear them are skill position players because they move better without the pads.

Why don't teams put a clause in the player contracts? You choose not to wear knee, thigh, or hip pads, and miss time due to an injury in these areas, you don't get paid.

IIRC, Warren Sapp stated that all he wore was shoulder pads and a helment.

knee pads and butt pads are worthless
hips pads arent quite as worthless, but it's much easier to move without them
thigh pads, idk why someone wouldnt wear thigh pads

If I'm a power running back I would wear hip and thigh pads.
Thats where you will take a lot of licks.
Knee pads are really worthless. Knee pads don't prevent knee injuries.

That's retarded. Players are faster without pads and speed is a winning edge. I'm sure the owners would prefer the speed and those pads don't prevent serious injuries to the joints and bones. They protect against bruises.
