this is my great uncle who was a pilot during WWII. His B17 was shot down and spent 13 months in a german prison camp before coming home. He meant the world to my mother so I was wondering if anyone could clean up the image for me to show her.

I remembered a similar request from someone who was building a table and Catahoula and a few others retouched and colorized a photo for him. You guys have amazing talents so i'm hoping you can help.

let me know if you need a different size or anything else. I'd like it 8 x 10 if possible.

If you want it 8 x 10 then you would need to post the scanned photo at a much higher resolution. If we resize this photo to 8 x 10 it will look blurry because information will be lost in the resize.

ETA: Nevermind. You fixed it

I'll work on it for you. Give me a couple of days and then I'll put it out here for you.

ETA:

That's a very nice photograph. I'll try my best on it for you.

Cat when you finish this would you also mind saying how you went about it in Photoshop (if applicable to Photoshop)?

Absolutely. The image has severe damage and will require many techniques and tricks. The tricky part is around the eyes and face. I'm pleased with what I've accomplished this evening. I've learned it's beneficial, for images with as much damage as this one, to work on it for awhile and leave it alone until the next day. I'm happy where I am on it for tonight...I'll work on it more tomorrow. It will probably be a couple of more days until I get it where I want it. This is really a beautiful photograph!

How are you doing the color? Just selecting certain parts of the image, making it a layer, then guessing what the color would have been? i'm sure there are tutorials on this somewhere but i was just curious how you are doing it. i was really impressed with whoever did that photo before, with the dude sitting at the table

Im working on it as well, mainly for the practice. You are right about the eye area, it is tricky

That's a black and white image. The color is from the aging sepia tone. NC Tigah is the color expert. He took the image I restored of the two men at the bar and colorized it. He did an outstanding job with it. Perhaps he, or someone else, can take a run with it for color when the image is restored. That would be pretty awesome.

This is what I was able to do with the image. Send me a gmail address, if you like this, and I'll send you the original files. Let me know if you want any adjustments. This is a beautiful photograph of your family member. My father had a friend from Mathews, LA who successfully flew 50 missions over Germany. I have great admiration for all those heroes. I hope your mother and family enjoys this image.

I'd love to see what NC Tigah and others can do to colorize this image!
