Given that they are so dependent on Tiger and Dale Jr to be successful, they will be in trouble as long as the struggles continue. If Peyton Manning, Pujols, or Lebron went down these sports would still thrive. I know that golf and NASCAR are not on the level of the big three but what would it take to make them successful if their stars continue to struggle?

Golf is way more dependent on Tiger. I think NASCAR has a deep following and it'll continue to do just fine. Golf will struggle so long as Tiger struggles.

Golf will be fine. Tiger will be back, but even if he doesn't make it back to where he was, golf will still be fine. The purses may not be as large, and the sponsors may not pour money into it like they currently do, but the sport isn't going anywhere.

I don't know shite about NASCAR.

I think NASCAR tried to expand too fast into all sorts of markets.

Maybe similar to hockey abandoning traditional Canadian locations to have teams in Florida, Carolina, Nashville, Phoenix, etc..?

Are you fricking retarded? That's possibly the worst comparison ever. Tiger is golf. Dale Jr has never been anything more than an overrated hype machine.

The expansion in NASCAR did not bother me, it was when they went away from the roots of racing and made everything cookie cutter. I still think if Tiger continues to struggle golf will not do well, the ratings on weekends when he does not make the cut definitely lag behind.

I think both are past their "peak". NASCAR got real hot and has backed off a little. Golf hit a huge peak when Tiger was winning everything and has stuggled a little in the last 2 years IMO.

NASCAR is what it is and will be OK. The problem with golf is that there are so many good young golfers but no one standout. No good rivalries either. When was the last time someone other than Tiger won two tournaments in a row? When it was Tiger vs everybody or Tiger/Phil the excitment was at its best.

Golf will be fine though, just wont match the HUGE growth of the last 13 years.

Sprint, I am only mildly retarded. I totally agree that Jr is overrated, overhyped, etc. But, you have to agree that there are more butts in the seats when he does well. I have friends that laughed at me years ago when I told them Jr would never win a points title.

Nascar is dependent on sponsors dumbass, and I'd be more worried about them than dale junior. He will always have his fans and Dale has not been good for years. And in case you ddint watch the golf yesterday it was great with out Tiger and I think people might be more fascinated with the unknown of Tiger right now than him dominating. I'd be worried about hte sponsors in nascar since it is totally dependent on sponsors than Dale Junior, when was the last time he had a good season anyways? THose necks will keep showing up and buying his shite, dont worry.

Agree on golf, disagree on NASCAR. DJ has sucked arse for years but people still follow NASCAR. And you will always still have that sect that will worship him for no other reason than who his daddy is, no matter how awful he is. Also Nascar has several other drivers with a growing following- Jimmie Johnson, etc.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Johnson is the face of NASCAR now, much to my chagrin. But he has put asses in seats and TV's tuned to NASCAR.

Networks would disagree with this. Tiger just playing and staying around red numbers helped viewership this weekend imo.

Jimmie does have a following but imagine if Jr had the 3-peat? NASCAR is sponsor dependent but they cannot be happy with declining turnouts to the races. I love someone who calls me a dumbass and only states the obvious.

The real problem with NASCAR is that the cookie-cutter 1.5 mile tracks are just fricking boring 95% of the time.

Correct. This is what is driving the fans away. Well, this and the absence of personalities. While I agreed that something had to be done to Carl Edwards follwoing his twice wrecking Keslowski, still if there were allowed to be some driver feuds (Earnhart Sr./Wallace, Waltrip/Yarbough, Petty/Pearson) that wouyld have people tuning in.

Yes, the decline in sponsors has hurt, because you are seeing a consolidation of resources. All of the Toyota teams run the same stuff, all of the Fords run Yates/Roush chassis and engines, Stewart-Haas gets their stuff from Hendrick, etc.

If sponsors would put more money in, you might see independent teams be able to afford the high tech equipment and not have to rely on the big boys to even get on the track. If there could be a single car team that made the chase, not neccessarily win it but just make the chase, it would would do wonders for the sport - like when Kulwicki came from out of no where to win the Cup in 1992.

Golf has always been successful. It just wasn't as popular before April 13, 1997.
