Try any of the Maverick Southern Kitchens. I've been to High Cotton and SNOB both this year. Great restaurants.

One of the better food cities in America:

The best 2 I thought were FIG and S.N.O.B

Magnolia was a close 3rd.

Poogans Porch and 82 Queen are pretty good casual places.

Resist tempation and do not go to Hominy Grill. We should have gone to Jestine's Kitchen.

One of the few cities I actually miss from time to time. I miss NYC all the time...

FIG, McCradys, Oak, Hank's, SNOB, and Cypress are all fine choices downtown.

Not high end dining? Monza for some pizza on Upper King St. or head up to Taco Boy. Always a good time. Juanita Greenberg's is good too.

If you end up on Sullivans hit up Poe's and HomeTeam BBQ.

Want a good beer selection and some BBQ? Smoky Oak Taproom on James Island. Best beer selection in town I think and some decent 'Q.

Need more?

Never been to Hank's. I went to college in Charleston for undergrad, but I definitely appreciate it more now that I'm only there once or twice a year. My favorite city.

Monza is awesome. Get the Fangio if you like traditional sausage and peppers but on a pizza.

Charleston is missing a lot of things I love about NOLA...and it certainly is not up to par with NOLA food-wise. With that said, Charleston does certain things better than NOLA.

All in all, they are the two gems of the south with Savanah finsihing the trifecta.

I have a ton of friends there so I try to go often.
