Here on vacation, and about an hour ago tar balls started washing ashore. It's pretty depressing to see.

Eta: Looking down the beach from our balcony there are still people in the water. It may be isolated.

The black is a wave anomaly could be seaweed or could be oil.

just made my reservations for next week in Rosemary

I figure just a few miles further east means tar balls we can avoid/step around.......I need to get one more Seaside fix just in case all hell breaks loose on 30-A.

NOAA nearshore surface oil forecast: Moderate SE winds (7-12 kts) are forecast to continue through Wednesday then become E on Thursday/Friday. Trajectories indicate developing westward currents within the Mississippi Bight region will begin to inhibit further movement of the slick to the east. Coastal regions between Ship Island, MS and Panama City, FL are threatened by shoreline contacts within this forecast period.

We are staying at The Cresent, basically across the street from the outlet mall on the beach.

was checking out beaches for the fourth of July and they all seemed to be open to the public. But with recent developements I'm not sure I want to take the risk of booking something

Just getting back into town from Grayton. There are tar balls washing up onshore there too, the first ones we saw were yesterday in the late afternoon. There were cleanup crews on the beach this AM and they had all been picked up by the time I left this afternoon.

I was on the beach all day untill sundown. I saw no tar balls and no oil at all. Children and families were in the water all up and down the beach...........We are staying in a condo on the beach at 118 Sandprint circle. Google it. See weed showed up today but no sign of oil at all. Hops it stays that way.
