Last week was the first episode they started setting it up. I figured it would take 2-3 episodes before it actually happened.

i don't mind it, Phil was one of the most likeable guys in the fleet. It's a sad ending for him.

Glad he somewhat resolved things with his son before it happened.

yeah definitely, but talk about a sad ending. The last things he did was go through old pictures with his sons, reminiscing about how his kids were when they were young.

very much so, he was my favorite capt. i guess i just got over anxious. this week was sad enough, so i'm sure next week will be worse.

hoping this gives jake the wake up call he needed and not the opposite and letting himself go.

also, pretty weird how he looked at those old photos with his sons just before. good last memory for his kids to have.

99.9% sure he didn't die for another month or so. I think he actually was doing great in his recovery from the stroke (ie, walking around, eating, talking, etc.) when he had another pulmonary embolism like last season and that is what actually killed him. It was sudden and unexpected because he was recovering really fast from the stroke.

did not know this! i was shocked he was coherent when they were filming but i've never been around anyone having a stroke like that.

i'm sure all these guys are walking time bombs the way the live but man he was a smoking, redbull drinking mofo. dude legs don't stop when they put the camera on him.

Next week's After the Catch focuses on The Wizard. They are probably saving the Cornelia Marie for last.

Maybe I missed it, but did The Kodiak completely back out midseason? They aren't showing them at all and the skipper, Wild Bill, isn't in the round table.

Yeah I believe he hangs on for awhile. Even gets better for a time in ICU from what I read of the remaining episodes. Then has a setback or a second stroke in hospital and that is it.

I can't imagine how many packs he went through in a day sitting in that chair 20 hours a day on a good day.

Has to be the highest ratings for any episodes of the show. It's all about the almighty $$$. So string it out and collect from the advertisers.

Looks like the show is in for some big changes next season - assuming it continues. Captain Phil is gone and other crew (Time Bandit?) is retiring. Those guys are pretty young. They must have made enough cash on the side from shooting commercials or stuffed some "non-reported" cash in the safe-deposit box?

Those guys are going to be back. They are moody little frickers. There is no need for both of those guys to be on the boat for Opie season. The younger guy works the deck for king crab. But for opies the older guy sits there. Why not stay home? That boat is there life. They have no life outside of that boat. He just wanted to go fishing. Those guys wont quit.

So is Sig, Andy and the guy from the Wizard all quitting? I remember Sig is on the Northwestern and Andy on the Time Bandit. I haven't watched it at all this year.

both the hillstrand brothers are supposedly retiring.

i haven't seen anything about sig other than the occasional mention, but his brother seems pretty burnt out. (i haven't watched any after the catch yet)

I didn't get to see all of after the catch, but I saw Edgar talking about quitting. He was saying raising his kids was way more important than pulling crab pots.

Hillstrands have more irons in the fire than crab fishing. Andy has a farm\ranch and Johnathan does other fishing besides crab.

Sig won't retire, but I think Edgar is on his last legs.

I'm tired of the Wizard. It wasn't just his incident with Time Bandit, but that guy is an a-hole. They never really show anything interesting off his boat, so I wish they'd pick up a new boat or 2 to follow instead.

Except when almost killed his whole crew last year. BTW, what happened to Crosby?
