You mean if the US gets a bid, Houston is bidding to host some matches?

Yes, they're in the final group of cities if the bid goes through. It would probably be at Reliant.

I'm sure Dallas/Fort Worth wants a bid for Jerry World, too.

Would they let Texas have 2 different sites?

If Texas is getting a city, then that city is Dallas.

I don't thnk FIFA will play WC games on anything other than natural grass.

Maybe that has changed. But I remember when it was here last time that one of the reasons New Orleans couldn't host any games was due to the turf in the dome. Maybe things would be different with the new field turf they use though.

They played games at the Silverdome in Pontiac in 1994. They layed out trays of grass that were shaped in a hexagon pattern and they grew together.

Jerry's been using his temple for some large-scale soccer games. If he can show that it can work with the big clubs (Chelsea, Inter, Bayern, etc.)then FIFA will be swayed.

so natural grass.

I know they tried this at the superdome but for whatever reason it didn't work.

eta: this is not based on any research on my part. I was still pretty young and am just remembering what my mom said. She may have been clueless.

Either way if either city hosts some games I will be there. Just like I will be at reliant for the MLS allstar game against Man U.

Either way, Dallas or Houston, it'd be amazing to have it so close.

The tray system worked just fine in the Superdome. They tested it for two preseason Saints games and one other event in the same year, using the same trays (to see how they'd hold up). It's just too expensive to do for a regular football game compared to the newer artificial turf setups out there.

The main reasons that New Orleans and the Superdome didn't make the final list for this bid cycle are that 1) Atlanta and the Georgia Dome are going to be one of the host sites (they'll almost certainly be using a tray system) and 2) there are more retractable roof stadiums that can have natural grass and be climate controlled (Jerry World being one of them).

That, and New Orleans hasn't ever hosted an international soccer event in the Superdome before. And SMG seems to have no interest in setting a match up. I think the only friendlies were at Tad Gormley, and it's inadequate for a high level competition.

Tad Gormley's pitch is much too narrow any way. New Orleans has never been interested (I'm talking about the sports business people) in trying to create a track record in order to be in consideration for these things. I have no doubt New Orleans would be an EPIC World Cup host city. It's so frustrating to see GNOSF, SMG, and whoever else sitting on their hands and letting these opportunities pass us by.
