I have these 2 aggies at work that insist the requirements to get into texas A&M are head and shoulders above LSU. I saw a post on here a long time ago that said otherwise but I can not find it. Does anyone know the current requirements that compare the 2 so I can put this to rest with these 2 aggies.

There are three main factors applicants must have to increase the likelihood of being accepted to LSU. Incoming freshman must have completed at least 18 units of college-preparatory classes and achieved a minimum gpa of 3.0. In addition, applicants must have a minimum SAT score of 1030 (Critical Reading and Math) or a composite ACT score of at least 22.

All students admitted to LSU must be eligible to enroll in university-level courses in English and mathematics. LSU requires a minimum ACT English sub-score of 18 or SAT critical reading score of 450, and a minimum ACT math sub-score of 19 or SAT math score of 460.

LSU Freshman Requirements

Applicants should evaluate their test scores and decide if retaking the test is necessary to make their score competitive. The average SAT and ACT scores of the incoming fall freshmen class were: 1210 (Verbal + Math) SAT; 26 ACT composite. Applicants applying to the Dwight Look College of Engineering are required to meet a minimum math score of 550 on the SAT or a minimum math score or 24 on the ACT.

The requirements vary from school to school or conference to conference BUT.......I think athletes can be conditionally admitted.....Do you really think those athletes at Stanford, Duke, and Rice had the basic entry requirements to get into those schools?

Both are tier 1 schools... A&M is ranked 61, LSU is 128 according to US News and report, which is kinda the offical rankings so I guess A&M maybe a little harder to get in.

I found this for T A&M:

State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy
Texas Education Code (TEC) 51.803-51.809 requires that all students meet one of the following college readiness standards in order to be eligible to be considered for admission at a Texas Four-Year Public Institution.
• Successfully complete the recommended or advanced high school program or complete the portion of the program that was available to them; or
• Successfully complete a curriculum that is equivalent in content and rigor to the recommended or advanced high school program at a high school that is exempt from offering such programs; or
• Satisfy the College Readiness Benchmarks on the SAT or ACT assessment
o SAT – 1500 out of 2400 (Verbal + Math + Writing)
o ACT – 18 English, 21 Reading, 22 Mathematics and 24 Science

The only difference that those aggies would consider shoulders up to get into TEXAS/AM over LSU is that you don't need to know how to spell!

Chilge1, you posted the minimum reqs for LSU and the average scores of incoming freshmen for A&M. Just figured I'd point that out.

Thanks... my fault. More concerned about finals right now that TD.

If anyone can find the counterparts to those two tidbits, feel free to post.

Former LSU Athletic Director Bob Brodhead was once the quarterback at Duke. He said in his radio show that there was excellent subject-verb agreement in his huddles.

Most of my friends from Texas that came to LSU, came because they didn't get into Texas or A&M.

I applied to both, and did not get into A&M, and only LSU.

The real issue for ATM is that they MUST accept students who are in the top 10% of their respective HS graduating classes. A counselor associated with ATM told me a while back that 40% of their incoming freshmen are not wanted by ATM, but they MUST accept them. LSU does not have such "handcuffs", which is why now 20% of incoming freshmen to LSU are from TX. MOST high schools across TX are not academically strong, but many schools in the greater Houston & Dallas areas are truly exceptional. The 50th percentile student from Clements or Stratford HS in the Houston area are "head & shoulders" better than most valedictorians across the state of TX. This is where LSU benefits from a flawed TX law. The issue for LSU vs. ATM is not really the difference in admissions, but how much foundation $ each school has. LSU is trying to reach $1 billion, but ATM has at least several billion $ due to receiving a portion of oil & gas revenues from some land in West TX on which ATM owns the mineral rights. UT gets even a bigger share.

ShreveportTIGER318,
You are largely correct, but read my previous post in this thread. Your friends were likely better students than many incoming ATM freshmen but there wasn't enough room for them because of the "10%" rule. I live in the Houston area & see that situation all the time.

LSU has made leaps and bounds for academic acheivement in the 2000's. my sister was a 2001 entrant and was pretty average, but would not be able to get into LSU today.

LSU's entrance standards are a lot less rigorous than TAMU and UT.

However, college entrance requirements are not a measure of a university's academic rigor. The true measure is wether unqualified students are able to graduate-which at LSU they are not. So, in the end, entrance requirements are insignificant.
