An article in the Adviocate this am says the NFL is considering the following rule change. In OT the first team getting the ball has to score a TD to win. If they kick an FG then the other team gets the ball to either tie with another FG or win with a TD. If they tie then the game reverts to sudden death.

All of this because, as the article states, Brett Farve's Vikings didnt get the ball in OT in the NFCCG. Maybe they can also create a rule that says any team with a 40 y.o. qb who throws an interception with less than a minute left in the game after his all pro rb has fumbled multiple times and after the same team is penalized for having 12 men in the huddle wins anyway.

Face it guys--YOU LOST TO THE BETTER TEAM!

The NFL is still red-assed they didn't get their Favre vs. Manning SB. I wonder what they're going to do when the Saints repeat.

I would be OK with eliminating field goals in OT. It is too easy for a team to drive once down the field and kick a FG. I'd also get rid of the tie, and keep having a 15 minute extra sudden death period until someone scores.

didn't we lose the coin-toss in the Washington game? and we still won with an exciting field goal? I think it's like the "running up the score" argument.. it's the D's job to stop them... stop them.

Hey, the change would play right into our hands. Which team has had the most prolific offense the last 4 years? You got it. We score TDs when we have to. There aren't too many teams that have the ability to get 6 pts. when the game is on the line.

Give Brees the ball in OT and the league will be looking for another rule change.

You know, you're right.

I actually like this. I'm not crazy about the OT rules as they are.

The OT rules are kind of stupid. But so is college. Maybe just one team scores and has to kick off. The other team has to match the score. None of that just starting from the 30 or 40 like college..

Eh I have never liked the NFL overtime rules. Always seemed a little unfair to me.

Yea, because the NFL has never come under scrutiny for their OT rules until a month ago.

The NFL's goal is to make the games as short as possible, factoring in the advertising time. There will be no changes to the OT rules.

Why does nobody mention one of the highest scoring NFL playoff games of all-time? Just two weeks prior to the Brett Farve didn't get the ball travesty, the Cardinals and Packers played the most offensive playoff game in NFL history. Yet, when that game went to overtime, an amazing thing happened.... the Cardinals played defense and won the game. They didn't even need Kurt Warner on the field to win.

If the Vikings could cover a kickoff and a running back out of the backfield, then they would have had a chance.

Despite the belief that this rule is being looked at since it helped the Saints. I think the real reason it needs to be changed is because it gives an unfair advantage to the winner of the coin toss. I think in the last 10 years it's like 60/40 in favor of who wins the coin toss, unlike college.

College might seem stupid but at least its fair to both sides.

Sudden death is perfect in my opinion, but I wouldn't have much of a problem with a 4-point rule for sudden death (first team to score at least 4 wins). That way, you have to either score a touchdown, or score twice.

Length of game will certainly be a major factor in any consideration....just like college

I read an article and it was talking about this and claimed it would've impacted the outcome of the NFCCG. Favre threw a pick.. Do they think he'd came out and threw a TD on his first possession or something?
