Johnson and Jackson were three star players. Hester had offers from Miami and Texas.

sure, cause every 2 star has a motor that won't quit and every five star is a trouble maker.
Recruiting success = on the field success. Can you imagine what LSUs record would have been the last two years without the stars? We'd be looking at back to back losing seasons.

Everyone develops differently. Its plausible a lesser rated HS player could develop into a very good college athlete while a highly thought of recruit fails to make progress in college. Not only is that plausible but it occurs regularly. The key is to spot the ones who have the upside to improve. I like Dandy Don but he's not offering any keen insight here.

I agree with you about the star system. You really don't know how a player will play in college until they do. Every reaction is different especially in the sec, and further more at LSU because of the expectations and the pressure of playing in a massive stadium.

The problem is we have 5 star recruiters and 2 star coaching.
No matter what kind of kids you get to sign with you, they ALL need serious development and coaching to be succesful in the SEC. If your coaching isn't on par, you will make a lot of 5 star kids look like 2 stars

If I had my way, all of the defense would be 5 stars. As would the O-Line and QB.
I'll let just one 5 star either be at WR or HB. And the rest 1-4 stars.
We can't have too many 5 stars at the skill position, or GC won't know who to give the ball to on each down.
