Are LSU Fans Beginning To Feel Differently About Saban?

When Saban was at LSU, everyone loved him. After he left, most LSU fans still admired him greatly. When he went to Alabama, most LSU fans grew to despise him. Are things changing?

As the LSU fanbase turns on Miles, what are we left with regarding the legacy of the past decade? We will be left with the fact that Miles' early success was a direct result of Saban, the very argument that all of us rejected vehemently (myself included). If we turn on Miles and he ends up getting fired, we will see the 2007 National Championship differently. We will give Saban more credit for it that we presently do, in my opinion.

I'm still not a big Saban fan. But, my view of the last 10 years of Tiger football is beginning to shift as I see more clearly what Miles is doing to the program. I am beginning to see Saban in a better light and am beginning to see Miles in a more negative light. I think that 10-20 years from now, we will see Saban as the Paul Dietzel of this era and Miles as the Charley Mac when it comes to looking back on the late 50's and 60's.

Is anyone else sensing this shift, or is the utter hatred for Saban still too real (personally, I can't believe that I am beginning to think this way considering how much I have despised Saban)?

They loved what he was doing with the program. But many knew he was and is a dick. But dicks win in football.

I still like Saban for what he did here and what he is: the best coach in college football.

I was just thinking this board needs more Saban threads.

He was a really nice guy in person, just arrogant which is like 90% of the people you meet who are successful.

LSU fans are feeling the sting of having to watch their former coach go on to be even more successful at a rival school while LSU is left to ponder what could have been, as Saban is in the midst of solidifying his stature as the best coach in college football.

It's not hatred so much as it is jealously and resentment.

Honestly, this thread is more about a changing historical perspective on LSU football. In 2007, every LSU fan was defending Miles and tearing down Saban's work at LSU (myself included). I'm thinking that that is going to change and we are going to see the past decade in a different light. Yes, it is about Saban, but it really is more about our view of LSU football from 2000-2009.

Pete Carroll getting $7 million dollars a year from owner Paul Allen of the Seattle Seaharks, Saban can't get this, maybe he will leave. As he said after LSU no. 1 in 2004, what can I do for an encore. I hope he goes into the hospital.

I said all of this would happen when they announced Saban as coach at Bama.

He had more to do with Miles winning the NC than Miles did.

Face it. We had the coach and he got away...

There are other elite coaches out there. One's that may eventually be better than Saban.

Unfortunately, LSU has Miles.

I have tremendous respect for Nick Saban. I think he's the best coach in America, and I'm grateful for what he did in his time at LSU.

I've changed jobs for more money before. Most people who've worked for any length of time have. Most people, when given an opportunity to do so, would. It's called bettering yourself. Therefore, I'd be a hypocrite to criticize Nick Saban for doing just that.

All of this having been said, if Les Miles departed for Ann Arbor, or Bowling Green, or wherever tomorrow, and Lil Nicky offered to come back...I wouldn't want him. That ship has sailed. He'd no longer be a good fit here. And the bottom line is, you can't ever go home.

Saban has no loyalty whatsoever.
He came into LSU and reversed two decades of incompetence in the athletic admin building.
He didn't care what people thought about him and did his job.
He doesn't really give a flip about Bama, the fans, or anyone else there either. He does his job and likes the adulation that comes with it and at the end of the day it doesn't matter where he coaches he just wins and does it his way.
He's not kissing the chancellor's arse or alumni's and if you get in his doghouse you won't see the field until you do things his way.
He runs the offense and defense he wants to run and could give a rats arse what anyone else thinks.
He is successful and that's all that matters.
Any Bama fan that thinks he won't bolt to the NFL doesn't know Saban, Sexton will cash in one day after his Bama run and either Bama will pay NFL money or he'll try it one more time before he retires.
