the really dumb "arguments" LSU fans come up with...

>first, pulling for the SEC no matter what.
admit it, half of you say this because you were taught to say it or by hearing it from someone else repeatedly, not giving it a second thought.
what do YOU really want?
>second, consider how delusional 'Bama fans are right now. Imagine them if they win the NC.
>third, TX winning affects LSU less than Alabama winning, from a recruiting standpoint, bragging rights standpoint, and overall relative standing in the SEC.
watching 'Bama beat Florida made me semi-nauseous
, so I go with my gut.
Hook'em Horns!

I never have an never will pull exclusively for the SEC,
I guess I could tell people that I was and they'd be happy that I was "helping LSU in the long run".
But it would be a lie. A man can't change what's in his heart and there have been times where I just hate the SEC team involved so much I want them to lose. And cereberal rationalizations just won't change that.

agreed. I was a big Miami fan growing up and watching Bama beat them in the '93 Sugar bowl just planted the seed!

Texas Longhorns = Deacon Blues. Did you watch the games last night?
Pull for the loser if you want. Won't make a difference.

I'm not jealous of bama, their fans, or their coach, so I am not bothered by their success. I hope they win, even though I live in Tx and I'm surrounded by longhorn fans, the SEC is the best conference in the nation and needs to prove it by bringing home a 4th straight MNC.

A third of our players are from Texas, and I would even say that we've out recruited the longhorns in their own state recently. A UT NC hurts us a lot more than a Bama title if we assume that NC=better recruiting.
Plus, a Bama win makes the SEC seem even more elite, which helps us. And if you don't believe this then you weren't paying too much attention to what happened at the end of 2007.

It's ok to hate BAMA if you want to but I think you are wrong with respect to the above quote. I would be willing to bet that LSU goes head to head with Texas for recruits a lot more than you do with Alabama. Also, when an SEC team wins the NC it is great for all of us in recruiting. The coaches can tell the players they get to play in the best conference in the country week in and week out.
Overall it is great for the SEC to be strong all around and it definitely is.

Congrats BamaScoop. Didn't get to do that yesterday. Your boys looked unstoppable and brought some wonderful memories for LSU fans seeing that dominating D. You guys have a great coach who really develops and gets the most out of his players.
With that said, it's so hard for Tiger fans to pull for Bama with all the history but I think you're right about an SEC teaming winning it all. It's best for the conference overall.
Good luck against the Horns. I'm pretty sure you got this one.

It is really a philosophical question that will have differing responses from fans from year to year and/or over 3-5 year time span.
Example: Having lived in Oklahoma now for over 10 years, witnessing the early 2000's rejuvenation of OU football, mixed in with UT's NC success, it was difficult to know that EVERY YEAR, especially during this timeframe but also factoring in the 70's and 80's when either OU, TX, or Nebraska could win 1-2 key games and have an almost "automatic ticket" to the NC game, many times leaving out a quality SEC team who was either undefeated or had 1 tough loss (such as what happened to Auburn a few years ago. For that reason, many SEC fans, including me as an LSU fan, would prefer to root for any SEC team to show the nation that our conference is usually "year-in and year-out" the most competitive conference......not trying to start a fight with the Big XII fans, but they had the nod for sooooo many years that it was disgusting. Then, when you see the likes of OU continue to fail in the big games over the past few years, then it makes sense to root for anyone in the SEC, including your perceived toughest rival, in order to earn respect from the media and gain an opportunity for our own team to be chosen in the BCS Championship game.
LSU and FLA's domination in the NC games in the past 5 years has completely changed the tune of the media bias toward the SEC. Now that the SEC gets the media nod for the "big game", our (LSU fan) perspective might change since we now focus on the adverse effect of recruiting versus a revived Bama presence in the state of LA. I think FLA would've been a better "winner" choice for LSU since there is less competition from FLA for LA recruits.
For myself, I am a huge SEC fan but this might be the first year in a long, long time that I could see some advantages for LSU if UT wins vs. Bama.
Bottom line, things change depending on the value of the "broader" versus the "narrower" perspective of overall good to the LSU program for me.

Agree. And I would add that I don't like 'Bama winning because it would mean too many NCs in the SEC. If the NCAA thinks there's a monopoly ,they will force changes...perhaps break up the conference.

I always pull for the SEC in every sport, that's just how I do what I do! I don't care who thinks it's dumb or not. I don't even want Texas in the freakin game, and I was sick when that FG went in. Alabama will "saw 'em off" and that will make four in a row, and make yet another SEC team to win the BCS. Plus I live around all this burnt orange nonsense, and I'm tired of hearing it!
