I am at work, and did not hear the press conf. real well.. but did he basically say there were 3 seconds left but they were working under the assumption that there was 1 (I assume since that is what the clock read)... not sure if I followed it well.. but I know he mentioned 3 seconds..

Just rewatched the press conference.. he says the "initial view shows 3 seconds"...if that is true, is he referring to the scoreboard (how else do the coaches get the "official time in this situation", it is not like the refs are going to stop the game, but you cant run a play without knowing the correct time)....wonder when he is saying it changed ...but then apparently that changed to 1 second..... if that is true.. then pretty much impossible to get the right play out in that situation .. not real sure, but it seems he should have at least gone with this theory if even remotely true for the "mass confusion" at the end

FWIW, the clock showed 1 second, and he knew it.

There looked like, watching it again, he came down with 3 seconds, so the clock should have been stopped right away. However, it's not like it stopped at 3 for 20 seconds, then they changed it to 1 right before the snap, or anything, they just didn't stop it the instant TT came down.

I was in Oxford. The catch may have been made with 3 seconds to go, but the clock fluidly counted down to one second left in an uninterrupted fashion. Then it stopped as the referees moved the chains. Every LSU fan in the stadium understood that there was one second left.

it looked to me like the ref didn't actually give the sign to stop the clock until there was 1 second left.

Watching the replay last night the clock definatly stopped at one point with 2 seconds left as they were running down the field.
Then it seemed like another second ticked off moments later.

Home field clock operator ?

Another question

With 2 seconds, do you attempt the spike..

3 seconds ?

attempting the rush the kick team on is risky, because you do not know how fast the ref will start the clock.

Its all pointless really, I doubt they could have got a kick off anyway and the real mistakes were made on 1st and 3rd downs.

yes, but miles also said that when he went to the refs to dispute the 1 or 3 second point, the refs were running from the field, supposedly he couldn't get them to verify the time left

So you were there?? just curious.. in his press conference he says the "initial view was 3 seconds".. did not come out and say it but I guess by mentioning the "initial view" he was suggesting that even then they had to quickly change strategy.. not that they had any strategy to change to begin with.

The TV clock isn't always right.

Yes. A spike is a 1 second play.

Well, no, though other people in this thread that were there said it went to 1 sec with no interruption.

You know he can't speak English. He probably meant it looked like he came down with three seconds left (which is true), but the clock didn't stop til one.

If he snaps it right at the whistle (which he should, but maybe he waits for the signal from the QB still). It theoretically can take 2.

And by these fans...you mean the ones who paid to go to the game rather than the one man paid millions to watch the clock??

No but it was right at the beginning of the play and it started exactly on the snap... so in this case the TV clock was right.

The Cox Sports Television replay had two seconds left. CBS had one second left. Numerous posters who were at the game said there was one second left.

He lost the game prior to this play. He let it run from 23 to 9 before calling a timeout. Dumb frick was going with a 50 yd field goal then realized he should probably try to get closer. FROZE. Deer in the head lights.

If the center and QB have a decent coach they will be trained to take a snap at the whistle. If the snap is ON the whistle it is a 1 second play.
