What is it?

What is it that separates the likes of Meyer and Saban apart from the rest?

It seems like everything they touch turns into gold. What makes them so different from so many coaches?

I don't get it.

I don't know, but Saban is the best turnaround specialist this game has ever seen.

"07 was a bad year for UF. Will be interesting to see Urban after Tebow leaves.

Saban did a great job in Mich St and Miami. Meyer on the other hand has won at every place he has been.

Hard work. Intelligence. Demanding of others to perform at a high level.

Unfortunately, LSU's offense can be game planned by an opposing coach over a short lunch.

In spite of this:

For starters I think Alabama and Florida have great high school programs.

That helps. Saban is proven. I still maintain we will see how well Urban does post Tebow. Not sold on him totally but he is not the failure many on this board predicted when he was hired.

Saban and Meyer are both pricks... apparently that helps.

I'm not sold on Saban, but Meyer has been pretty flawless so far as a coach... but he is still young.

It's simple, those two guys have high standards and don't except anything less than perfection. And they have the football minds to achieve the excellence they strive for... They don't make excuses for their players and they don't except a hard fought victory against miss state. They want to dominate and they demand it.

They are skilled at coaching one side of the ball and attract top notch talent for those positions. These are the kids that have a great chance to play on Sundays.

Then the coach them with expectations of the recruit becoming the best in the nation at their position. They may not reach it,but that is the expectation.

Then they hire someone on the other side of the ball that is great at doing the same thing.

We have a Manager. He is really not known to be an offensive or defensive genius, or for developing a kid into NFL quality at a certain position.

The great coaches demand excellence, and the top notch recruits want that in their coach.

Well in Les Mile's case, they can complete sentences

seriously has someone ever said so much while saying so little

to answer the posters question I think its respect. players might like Les but I dont know that they respect him as a coach.

That hit the nail on the head. They want excellence, effiency, and total domination. Miles seems content to just squeek by, no matter how bad we look doing it.

That's pretty much every coach out there.

There are a lot of other good coaches in the nation that you seem to have totally separated them from. Stoops, Brown, Davis, Carroll, Tressell, Miles, Richt, Spurrier, Bowden, JoPa, etc.

Huh? Saban never won the Big 10 in 5 years at MSU and lost to Dinardo in the Indy Bowl? Lost to Dinardo!! And what did little Nicky do at Miami in one year? He won a grand total of 1 more game from the previous year! Wow, what a resume!

That makes no sense.

Not sure about Meyer, but Saban has always impressed me with pushing his players more during the off season than most college coaches. A lot of our players physically looked like NFL players in college and LSU rarely looked like the tired team in the 4th quarter under Saban

Some people only have a 3-month memory and only watch SEC football.

Agree! Apparently, little Nicky fans have selective memories about Mich State, Miami, and games against UAB, Kentucky, multiple ones against Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Iowa, ULM at Alabama, Oregon State which OSU should have won easily if they could make PATs/FGs, etc.
