Michigan St was 10-2 his last year there with a Cap One Bowl win against Steve Spurrier after he left for Baton Rouge. Michigan St hasn't been anywhere close to that good since he left.

Miami went from one of the worst records in the league to .500 in his first year. And we all know that Saban's heart and head weren't into his 2nd season in Miami since he was flirting with Bama for the last month of the season.

Bama went from shambles to the best team in the country (IMO) in less than 3 years once he got there.

For anyone to say he/she isn't sold on Saban, you're either in denial or a fricking dumbass.

Get his penis out of your mouth. Michigan State is like Texas A&M. Yeah he did good there, but it's a good program. Bama did not go from shambles to what they are now... they were doing well in recruiting before Saban got there. It's a great program with a lot of history and a lot of great local talent. Any good coach can do well there. Same as Florida. As for the NFL, it was his dream, and he failed.

Correct and it gets worse unless you are talking ENROLLED signees. Little Nicky had quite the problem with signing players but they never put on an LSU uniform. And I won't even bring up Xavier Carter a 5* WR who was really like a 2* football player. He may be the biggest bust in LSU football history...yes, even greater than Josh Booty!

Miami was 4-12 in 2004, and 9-7 in Saban's first year.

i enjoy the hell out of listening to coach saban's radio show on wednesdays.

i was at walk-on's for Les' first ever radio show....he bored the crap out of us.

i'm not saying he is a bad coach, but when he speaks he really does come off as a doofus. miles really isn't that bad of a coach...but it's brutal to hear him talk.

Saban didn't come across as a great speaker to me at all, but yeah Miles is much worse. But Skip Bertman said you have to hear the way the guy talks to the team, and I finally got a chance when I saw his post-game speech to the team after one of the games earlier this year. It was awesome. But yeah, I wished he'd quit being so paranoid about talking football in front of the press.

He pulled the most classless act I have seen since Woody Hayes clotheslined that Clemson player on the sidelines. After the Iowa game, he threw Ronnie Prude under the bus for blowing a coverage. I have never seen a coach call out his own player for losing a game. Classless POS!

Saban is great turnaround guy (disipline, etc) and great recruiter...but h's NEVER had sustained success. Never stayed anywhere long enough to prove he could. We'll see about him and Meyer post-Tebow.

2002 LSU 5 losses
2003 LSU 1 loss (MNC)
2004 LSU 3 losses
2005 GONE

Good coach- No question. Sustained success? Not yet.

Nice job of throwing up a counter argument. Real fricking mature.

Mich St and aTm are good programs?? We have different standards. Mich St was 10-2 in Saban's last year and they haven't sniffed that since in the shitty arse Big 10. They aren't a good program. In fact, they're very average.

bullshite...Bama was in the midst of losing 5 in a row to LSU and 6 in a row to Auburn before Saban got there. Their coach was fired for screwing hookers. They were ineligible for the SEC Championship because of probation only 6 years ago. For Alabama, they were in shambles.

Yes, he did. But he's not an NFL coach, and he recognized it and got the frick out before he ruined his career.

Saban makes the cover of Forbes magazine as "Sports' most powerful coach." (September 1, 2008 issue, same day that Hurricane Gustav struck Baton Rouge. THE definition of "irony").

Miles can't make the cover of The (Baton Rouge) Advocate sports section...

You are correct, what I wanted to remember was that in his 2nd year he was 6-10 thus he only added 1 win per year for the 2 years he was there. He lost 3 more games his 2nd year than his first. My point is still valid but you had the correct first year win total.

Speaking of dumbasses,Saban went 9-2 his last yr. and he didn't coach the team in the bowl game of his last year. He never won a bowl game while at MST. As for his Miami success-YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING,RIGHT?

Go re-read my post at the top of page 2. I clearly said that MSU won the Cap One Bowl after he left for Baton Rouge. They were 10-2 after the bowl win.

As for Miami, he took them from 4-12 to 9-7 in one year. That speaks for itself, just as much as the drop to 6-10 the next year speaks to the fact that he wasn't cut out for the NFL long term. The Miami argument is totally irrelevant to this conversation because we're talking about college head coaches.

But yeah, he's kicking arse at Bama, but I'm not sold that it's going to last... but who knows, maybe he is peaking right now.

I heauxpe you're right.

He's gotten a lot of lucky breaks the last two years. In 2008 the rest of the West imploded. In 2009 he doesn't have to play FU in the regular season. When FU does rotate back onto the gump schedule Tebag will be gone.

I can't stand Bama and it burns me up to see him doing a better job there than he did for us.

That hit the nail on the head. They want excellence, effiency, and total domination. Miles seems content to just squeek by, no matter how bad we look doing it.

That makes no sense.

How does it not? You have trouble with reading comprehension? I've always heard Miles talk about "room to improve", and "we must get better". Saban talked about it being a necessity to "dominate" oponents, to "dominate" the man lined up against you.

For starters I think Alabama and Florida have great high school programs.

And per capita, Louisiana produces more NFL talent than either of those states.

I think that the biggest things are their organization and ability to put together phenomenal staffs. Don't underestimate the importance of assistant coaches or overestimate the importance of a head coach.
