Only 1 DT committed so far?

We have to pick it up and get more top flight large DL in this class. Who is the best of uncommitted DL left? Not necessarily by star ranking.

Should ask the question differently. There are only 3 listed on the prospect list. Who do we really have the best chance to sign and with only 1 committed shouldn't that list be longer?

and that DT commitment is projected to play OL in college like Barksdale.

We def need some good DTs. Our Dline depth sucks right now. When Miles got here we could go 3 deep along the Dline with 4/5 stars. Now we have 2 RSfreshman and a true freshman getting way too much PT. I dont know how he managed to destroy our depth.

Blackmon is our DT commit

Yes Blackmon is supposedly a DT recruit and Elliot Porter is supposed to play OL instead of DT even though Rivals ranks him as the #13 DT for the 2010 class.
My question is why is Akiem Hicks not seeing any playing time? Downs has played the last two games to Hicks not playing a snap (as far as I know.) How can a true freshman be better, further along in DT technique than a JUCO DT that has supposedly played (started) for the last two years of experience @ the JUCO level? All I can figure is that Hicks experience has not transferred to the "big-time SEC caliber of skills needed/required to see playing time" and he has not progressed/developed as the coaches projected.
The coaching staff hasn't said boo about this as far as I know. And, Davenport was injured in HS last year so supposedly, he was given a RS to heal up and recover from that injury.
Does anyone have any "real" insight as to Hicks?
If Hicks can’t cut the mustard, then not going after Sentimore harder may have been a mistake on the Coaching staff's part…I hate to question the staff’s decision and hindsight is always 20/20, but Sentimore has more speed than Hicks and would have been around for 4 years vs. two. And, if Hicks can’t enter the rotation this year, then we will have only gotten one year out of him and LSU will not benefit from his experience next year in subsequent years. This is the downside of JUCO guys; if they don’t contribute their Jr. year, I consider it a bust recruiting effort. Too little sugar for a dime…some may say…or in other words…it wasn’t worth the effort for the amount of resources expended.
There is a thread about Sentimore (which some on this board have taken exception to for critcizing the coaching staff), but DT depth will be an issue next year if LSU cannot land some good DT this year.
Depth will be:
Nevis - SR - I hope he doesn't go pro or LSU is in trouble.
Hicks - SR -
Downs - Soph.
Davenport - RSFreshman
Blackmon - True Freshman
That looks like problems to me if Nevis goes to the NFL. We can rotate 4 guys with very little experience. Any injury and LSU is in trouble. This is a recruiting problem for LSU.

What about Byron Bennett from Jackson, MS we are recruiting but have not offered yet? He has a better offer list than Ash.

I wasnt very impressed with his film. He's athletic and fast once he gets moving, but it takes him a while to get off the line, not too eplosive.

Hicks got dinged (miles never really tells how bad). He has shown bad character issues recently. I think he gave some lip to one of the coaches.

All I can say is to me our Dline recruiting sucks. We go get all the skilled guys we want but if the dline sucks and has no depth it won't matter because the offense will never see the field and the DB's will get worn out because we can't stop the run and we can't rush the passer. Is this going to be the future of our defense? There is absolutely no reason to have subpar dline recruiting. This is on Miles.

MILES IS A TROJAN HORSE SENT HERE TO DESTROY OUR PROGRAM BY RECRUITING TOP 5 CLASSES!!!

We are going to hit the JUCO ranks for DTs and WRs before this class is finished.
We have a stronger need there than any other position since I started following recruiting close 4-5 years ago. It is inevitable that some "new names" pop up and we get commitments from guys that we have never heard of before--happens every single year.

I'm hoping that includes Benay Pryor at DT.

My understanding is that Hicks has a injured knee. FWIW

Yea, and those top 5 classes produced a 7-5 team last year, that was headed up by the co idiots brought here by your boy Lester.
But, I guess I should just say I trust our coach...right?

You think Martavious Lee is a possibility?

I almost mentioned him in my post about Benay Pryor. I think Alexander could help us with depth and then in a couple years we could recruit his brother DT Churphy Steward from JUCO.

Byran Jones, but he doesn't have an offer from LSU. He wants to go to LSU, but 0 offer. He does have offers from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Auburn among others. Guess he should've gotten that offer from Troy. That would've sealed him up for LSU to offer...
