Inspired by a comment about Florida in another thread. . . .

b/c they invented Gatorade....duh

Supposedly, LSU actually had the first sports drink "Bengal Punch", developed by Dr. Marty Broussard, about 5-7 years before Gatorade.
LINK

FSU also claims that Florida stole the idea from their "Seminole Firewater" from them in 1962.
LINK Gatorade was introduced in 1965.

Snopes disagrees LINK, but their article is only talking about "Gatorade", not sports drinks in general.

As a side note, Florida claims their defeat of highly favored LSU (14-7) in 102 degree weather, was the first time it was used in a game.

Bengal Punch and Seminole Firewater never made it out to a mass national market like Gatorade did. Guess the UF guys had better marketing/advertising classes at Gainesville.....

There used to be a company in BR called 10K or something that marketed a similar product. My dad interviewed with them and brough home some of their products. Tasted just like Gatorade to me.
