ps3--games are catching up, free online play, and bluray is badass.

Depends on what you like, Each has its own positives and negatives. Research then choose. A big factor for me would be free online play, but to each his own.

hell, come up with a few more dollars and buy both! I think they're both worth owning.

I've got both systems and they're both worth owning. If you're mainly using it for games, get a 360. You could get the system and several good games with that card. If you get the PS3, you're looking at one game and the system (with tax). Blu Ray is the wild card. If you'd get a lot of use out of Blu-Ray, then definitely go with the PS3. Otherwise, the best value is with the 360; especially since you could get an extra two games with the price difference between the systems.

I'm a big fan of my 360 and have netflix so that's pretty badass

For $500 you can get a 360 and 2-3 more games than if you buy a PS3

I've had a 360 for a few years, but if I had a $500 gift card, I'd go with the PS3.

PS3 is a better console, Xbox 360 still has better games (2009 belongs to PS3, but the 360 will be returning in fine form the end of this year and next year).

With that said, I'm an RPG and adventure game style nerd who dabbles with the occasional first person shooter.

PS3 may be a more powerful console but Microsoft made the xbox 360 which means its Dev kit is 5000000 times easier to use which = better games. Ps3 might be on equal terms as far as games in a few yeas but then we'll be in the last stretch of this generation and I wont care.

It really comes down to how much you care about blu-ray. If you want a entertainment center for all aspects, I'd say ps3 because of blu-ray. If you want the better gaming console, it's xbox 360 all the way.

fwiw, my roomate and I have had a ps3 and a 360 since they came out and I havent even touched that ps3 controller but more than 10 times(for game use).
