I am renting a house and wonder if anyone has any opinions on affordable renter's insurance. I'll hang up and listen.

Is renter's insurance really necessary? I rented all through college and never had it.

I never had it until I watched my friends apartment complex burn to the ground. All they had was their dog and cell phone. Not even car keys. I had it from that day forward, and its really cheap.

You can get a decent amount of coverage for less than $200 a year. It's really a no-brainer.

Everytime there's an apartment fire around here, you see people on TV who ran out of their apartment with nothing but what they were wearing telling a reporter they regret not buying a renters policy.

Ok, well that makes sense. I just never had anything that valuable in my apt, but for $200/yr its would definitely be worth it.

It all depends on how many assets you have to protect. Most people don't own all that much in college. Later in life is a different story however.

I think I paid around 10-12 bucks a month. Just call whoever insures your car and ask.

the discount for adding renters insurance(multi policy discount, if your auto carrier also sells renters ins.) is often more than the actual renters policy
