I overheard local sports guys and tiger fans talk about an incident where Nick Saban fell off his boat and somebody had to save him.
I can't remember the specific deets
Anybody have the link to that story?

Yes the summer before the 2003 NC, almost the season that wasn't.

I thought it happened while he was on vacation.
Lake Lanier, GA?

You may have read about it. For a brief moment, the life of the Louisiana State coach was in danger. A misstep on his boat had caused Saban to fall, hit his head on a dock and sink to the bottom of a lake near his vacation home in Georgia.
"It actually knocked him out," said Lemoine, a close friend and CEO of a prominent construction company in Lafayette, La. "He actually went to the bottom and came to. It happened so fast I didn't realize he hit his head as hard as he did. In 10 seconds, when he wasn't back up I jumped off the boat and I started to dive in."
But Lemoine hesitated, not wanting to jump on top of his pal. Then here came Saban floating/paddling to the surface, the immediate present and long-range future of LSU football literally riding on every gurgle.
"People ask me, 'Did you save his life?'" said Lemoine, who grabbed the coach and hauled him out of the drink. "Saban could have woken up on the bottom of that lake an hour later and he'd still be alive. He's a fighter."

almost another LSU tragedy...you guys know the others I'm sure. but with so many football players and people involved in the program over the years, a few of them are bound to die in weird ways.

I heard he came up so fast he didn't have a hair out of place. His suit was a little wet. Then someone yelled to get out of the baby pool.

This is the part I don't believe. I've always thought that if you were unconscious you would involuntarily breathe. If that happened while you were under water, your lungs would fill with water and you'd drown, even if you got back to the surface very quickly.

The hitting his head part explains why he'd leave LSU. He never has recovered has he, miami then bama. Poor guy, head injuries can really screw with a person's ability to think logically.

No, his vacation house is on Lake Rabin (if memory serves..), near Clayton, Ga. That lake and area is beautiful...
