Ya' think it takes the defense a year to get their feet wet?

nah, new offense much tougher to grasp.

Supposedly, Chavis' system is supposed to be easy to "pick-up" mentally. Just what I heard though.

this defense is very simplified and easy to pick up. our players will have no problem adjusting to it. there will be alot less subing in and out. which was a huge problem last year.
we will play a base 4/3 and when the offense goes to 4 wrs we will go into our dime pkg. not much nickle in the chavis system.

simply put; WE WILL BE A HELL OF ALOT BETTER

Got a report from a good friend that have been to the scrimmages. The defense looks like that of old. Flying to the ball, knowing assignments, knowing where to be, making reads, etc. The down linemen and backs are looking good with Brick and Cooper. Chief has a good control of what its takes to get these guys to make plays. They will be fun to watch this year.

our defense now is like defense for dummies.we will diminate.no more talent running in circles.

Depends on how complicated Chavis wants to make it. Saban had lots of blitz packages which took multiple seasons to implement.

One of the big contributors to defensive collapse in '08 was over-substitution. Which led to confusion and IMO really kept players from getting into any kind of rhythm. Sounds like Chavis is going in a different direction.

Looking forward to seeing the return of some dominant defense.

Chavis said himself, he plays base 4-3 most of the time. Different terminology I am sure but same ideas. Without all the substitutions and a simplidied D I think they pick it up quickly. Besides being aggresive and not reactionary will cover up some mistakes

Chavis said it best when he said that he wants to dictate what the offense does, not the other way around. In this day and age of college football, stopping every team every game is virtually impossible. But if you can minimize what you allow the opposing offense to do, you limit their effectiveness. Last year we reacted opposite to that line of thinking. We allowed the offense to dictate what we put on the field, which resulted in some problems. And let's not forget how inexperienced we were last year. I realize Eugene and Hawkins were juniors but they were first time starters and had never played considerable snaps prior to last year. One thing our abundance of substitution did was give a lot of guys a lot of game experience.
