Temple's lack of offense makes my blood pressure rise

I know I shouldn't be looking at the negative side of our LSU basketball team. Especially since they are playing really well. But, I can't seem to ignore the fact that Garrett Temple hasn't improved at all offensively in the 4 years that he has been here. The game would have never went into over-time if he wouldn't have blown that lay-up!
One other comment. Can you guys imagine how good we would have been this year if Anthony Randolph would have hung around for his sophomore year and if Coach Johnson could have swayed Greg Monroe to LSU.
Our starting five would have looked like this.
PG Bo Spencer
SG Marcus Thornton
SF Anthony Randolph
PF Chris Johnson
C Greg Monroe
With a decent bench behind them. Wow, I think that could have been a final four roster! Just my thoughts.
One other comment. Can you guys imagine how good we would have been this year if Anthony Randolph would have hung around for his sophomore year and if Coach Johnson could have swayed Greg Monroe to LSU.

His offense is actually greatly improved this year IMO in terms of decision making, etc. He doesn't try to do too much, which is good.

His shot has greatly improved. He's very smart on the basketball court, does a lot of little things that go relatively unnoticed, and is one of the better defenders on the team and in the conference. His ten points in the second half of last week's game was a huge catalyst for us in blowing out Alabama last week and allowing most of our team to sit the second half.

I'll just combat this thread by pointing out he's arguably the best perimeter defender in the SEC and leads the team in assists. Other than defense, he doesn't do anything spectacular. However, he does bust his arse every game contributing in plenty of other ways such as leadership, distributing the ball, playing tough defense, rebounding, etc. He's a program type player that I'm sure TJ would want on his team every year. He's obviously limited on offense but he certainly makes up for it in many other ways.

His shot has improved. Just watch his free throw shooting and you can see much better rotation than he used to do.

He's averaging as many assists as a 3, with a better A/TO ratio, than he did as a 1. Offense isn't just shooting. He doesn't need to shoot as much as he's the worst shooter out there, but his stroke has improved even though the percentage has not.

Good reply Stromile. I think he deserves to play and is great on defense and is a program player. Just aggravates me that he never gained a whole lot of confidence on the offensive end through the years.

And while his attempts aren't as high as Taz or Thornton, he is leading the team in FT percentage.

Personally, I thought he would progress more from an offensive perspective due to him being such a hard worker. For whatever reason, it just hasn't come for him. During the off-season, he puts in countless hours working on his perimeter shot.

But look at Collis III, he was a great shooter from outside when he left but didn't defend well. With the dynamics we have on the floor right now, we need a defender more than another shooter.

Agreed. He is one of those "program guys" that every coach loves to have. He knows his role and plays it pretty well for the most part.

No offense basile but TMitch would be starting no matter what. I agree it would have been a super team with just Randolph returning. Don't forget JB finished a close second for Darrell Arthur and Scotty Reynolds his last two seasons here. Then again if they had come JB would probably still be here so everything's worked out for the best IMHO.
