Their defense is ranked 63rd in the country, which is terrible. How terrible you ask? Terrible enough that:

Bama
Tenn
UF
SCAR
AU
Ole Miss
LSU
UGA
Vandy
Miss St
UK

are all ranked ahead of them in total defense. In case anyone is wondering, that's 11 of the SEC's 12 teams.

OU gives up 80 more yards a game than Florida. OU gives up twice the points that Florida gives up (24ppg to 12ppg for UF).

When you have two offensive powerhouses, do you want the one with a coach who chokes in BCS games and a defense that's ranked behind Duke? Do not want.

Just thought I'd get the MNC game discussion rolling, not that there's anything to discuss.

To be fair, when your offense scores that much and sometimes so quickly, your defense gets tired. The opposing teams get lots of possessions. And a lot of those yards came when the game was over. They have a good defense. But not a great one.

I say UF by 14. Texas should be playing. They would only lose by ten.

UF by 10 or so. I think it's going to be close but Florida is going to win.

I agree with this. Anybody who doesn't think OU has a chance is a moron. And why has everybody become so infatuated with defensive rankings lately? You'd think it was more important than wins and losses.

You have to take those rankings with a grain of salt. OU played several top 10-20 offenses, meanwhile the SEC had several teams (Tenn, USCe, Auburn, Vandy and Miss State) with O's ranked in the 90's to 100's.

That said, I do think OU is suspect on D, but if you think Duke has a better D, I want to talk to you about this bridge I have for sale.

Because the SEC has higher defensive rankings than the Big 12.

Me, I use my eyes, rankings do not reflect the quality of offenses you are playing or distinguish between garbage time and when the game really matters.

i think OU has a great chance. They're playing in the game.

I feel like UF will win by a couple scores, but then again I won't be surprised if OU wins.

I think we can all agree that UF and OU have dynamic offenses. The real question is, are the Big12 defenses bad because the offenses are good, or are the offenses good because the defenses are bad?

Either way, OU can score. UF can score and has on some pretty stout defenses.

Honestly, aside from UF just coming out flat, the only real way I see OU winning is if they control the turnover margin. I believe OU and UF are among the top teams as far as turnover margin, so if they can force UF into some turnovers, they could very well win. Other than that, I'll take the dynamic offense with the good defense. It'll come down to who can stop who, not who gets the ball last IMO.

I feel the same way. I wasn't pointing fingers at anybody in this thread, but there have been several people who think OU will get run out of the building and shouldn't even bother showing up. That's absurd to me. I think Florida will probably win a fairly close game, but it wouldn't shock me if OU won or even won by a couple of touchdowns.

I just like the efficiency of OU's offense. They make it look so easy. The no huddle seems very successful.

Definitely

I think the honest answer is a little bit of both--how much of each we will not and can not ever know.

I disagree here. I think it's very possible that OU is just the better team.

i think i'd be pretty surprised if OU wins by a few touchdowns...not UF though

don't know why, it may just be an SEC bias coming through

I kind of feel the same and for two reasons:

1. UF has the better D. It'll be harder for OU to blow out a D that gives up 12 a game than for UF to blow out a D that gives up 24 a game, but that's just me.

2. If OU gets down early, will they get that "it's happening again" look in their eyes? That may sound corny, but you could see it on Ohio State's sideline last year when LSU got up 17-10. They lost all their confidence. I bet they were all having flashbacks to the UF blowout the year before, and that would be a tough mental hurdle to overcome. If OU gets down early, you'd have to think WVU and Boise will be on their minds.
