Anyone a fan of this movie? I saw it for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. Bud Cort was excellent. Too bad he never really did anything of substance (to my knowledge) after that film.

Wow- we saw that in High school in the 70s in psychology class. Then, through the 80s, and college, it was always a reference point. Have not thought of that one in a long time!

A lot of my friends really like this movie, but I didn't think it was that good nor very funny.

I think it’s pretty damn overrated. But, as a rule, I tend to hate the subgenre of “spoiled rich white kids who parents don’t love them enough” movie. Throw in some embarrassing 1960s/1970s philosophy, and the movie is particularly cringe worthy. I also believe Maude is an extraordinarily selfish woman, who is actually trapped by her own concept of “freedom”. It’s a landmark film, but not one I enjoy.
It’s funny, I love the counterculture films of the 1980s and 1990s. But I tend to hate the counterculture films of the 1960s and 1970s. I think it’s because it’s my culture, and part of the late 80s/early 90s ethos was a total rejection of the 1960s. In short, I hate hippies.

I found the movie to be mind numbingly boring and slow
