Zero Turn Mowers: Better bought from a dealer or a home improvement store?

i'm tired of walking my third of an acre. been wanting a zero turn for a while and while i've been looking, i can't seem to make up my mind.
lowes has a husqvarna z254f w/ 54" deck and 24hp kawasaki engine for $3300
LINK
lowes also has a craftsman 42" deck with 20hp kohler engine for $3100
LINK
then there are local dealers that range from $3k-$3500
bad boy
toro
gravely
john deere
my main question is does it matter where i get it from? if i get it from lowes and get the additional warranty, who's going to work on it if something goes wrong? i know lowes/home depot don't have mechanics. anyone ever run across this?

1/3rd an acre? I’d suck it up and walk.. or if you’re disabled and want the ride just hire someone. $3k gets you a couple years at least of labor plus no upkeep plus you get your time back
That said, I’d go big box store since it will be light usage.

yeah, i walked it last summer and starting to again this year, but the previous owner left too many "obstacles" for me to have to mow around with a 24" mower.
landscaping boulders (at least 8), big arse blue cypress trees (7), etc. it's annoying.

Personally, I'd buy from a dealer.
Dealers will service the machines.

Several times when I tried to get service, the first question out of their mouth is "Did you buy it from us?"

Go to a dealer. Look at what they have in your price range and DO A TEST DRIVE. Any dealer that won't let you test drive then move on.
Also, most big box stores have no idea how to properly set up the blades and prep the mower.

I have bought probably 25-30 mowers in my life and even the 3500-5000 range a good dealer will let you drive it. Feel the hydros, etc.
The engine combos are all about the same. Most of the hydros are identical just different specs if it's integrated or separate pumps and wheels. The biggest differences are in the decks (both quality of construction and quality of cut) and the build quality of the frame.

Buy it from a dealer.

Also, if you buy from a dealer, you can talk to them and take it to them before the warranty expires and they will "find" stuff wrong to replace under warranty.

a good mom and pop small equipment service place is usually 10x better than some of these dealer services on small equipment.

Buy a gravely or a hustler from a dealer. The end.

Out of all those you listed I’d go look at a Bad Boy magnum or elite. I always buy my mowers and handheld equipment from dealerships. Dealerships can get you financing through Sheffield, Lowes can’t.

1/3 acre, go to lowes, but get it serviced by a small engine guy.

If you go that route, plan on doing any maintenance yourself. Every small engine shop around here is about a month wait.
