on a party barge? Assuming everyone was sober.

I would teach the kid to fricking swim.
ETA: My kids have never worn "floaties" or anything like that. They wear PFDs is we are running in the boat. Other than that there is nothing to worry about unless the kid cannot swim.

I'm going to be a grandfather for the first time this November and I'm trying to figure out how to mount a baby seat on my bass boat

I take my daughter, almost 3, out all the time. As long as no drinking by driver and shes got on her PFD, I see no issue. I don't know why you wouldn't.

Sure. But unless I was related to said 3.5 year old, I would not want to go.

Of course. My son was on the water regularly at a few months old.

Better question: Would you bring your wife on party barge?

My kids were on boats as early as 3 months.

I actually hear this a lot. DONT DO IT, if serious.
If the boat capsizes, you have a toddler stuck to the boat. Buy a PFD rated for 20lb or less and hold on to them. Don't ever strap a kid to a boat.

Well of course! Why not?! My boy was barely 2 checking lines in the bayou while my prego wife drove the boat!
