That's a lot of land to not be working it. That remote and no cattle to run I would probably have to pass. He wants to let me run cattle and free to hunt all I want and then we're on to something.

Thank you for your responses. I figured this would be a good place to answer the question I had.

I'll know more in a month whether the deal is going to go through, and if it does, I'll repost something here with information about the job.

Thanks again.

For anyone interested in doing this, it's fun as shite if you're into living on a farm. I worked on a dairy farm in a similar capacity for short time with similarly populated areas nearby. 20 miles away was a town of about 1k, I don't think people realize how small a town of 1k people really is until they go there. The money was good, the experience was good and more importantly the fishing was good. I wouldn't go unless you and the owner had a firm agreement on a time period. I served a 6 month sentence on the farm and it wasn't until my last couple of weeks that I realized how hard it was to find qualified replacements. I would have stayed past our agreed upon date if the herdsman had asked.

Funny thing is getting laid was so easy it was silly. Only issue is nearly every decent looking girl in town has a boyfriend weather she knows it or not, so someone will always be looking to kick your arse.

I would take that right now, and I have a family and kids. $3000/month is pretty good when all that other stuff is included.

I have a client who is retiring (at age 50) and is trying to buy a ranch in New Mexico (about ten sections worth). At lunch the other day, he said that he would like to hire a caretaker to essentially watch the place, check fences, take care of animals (dogs and cats at this point) when they are gone, etc. He's thinking $3000 month, health insurance, truck, house and utilities paid.

I said "I wonder if some recent college grade who loved the outdoors would want to do it for a couple of years?" So, I'm asking here (this is a hypothetical at this point, not seeking job applicants).

Sweet deal. He's overpaying.

Funny bc if I get laid off, in O&G, my plan is to go work a ranch in MT or WY. If I can run cattle though NM would work.
