one of my best friends has a 48" Exmark. It is exactly like my Lesco.

interesting. i don't see a single exmark 48" for under $1200 used.

is it a branding thing?

Exmark are pretty top of line. You're gonna find 36" belts from 1-2k and add at least a thousand for the 48s

LINK for example, this would last you forever

yes. People who are uninformed shy away from Lesco because they no longer make lawnmowers. They do still make golf course equipment.
I had a spindle go bad on my mower the other day. Did a little digging. Spindle on the Lesco was aluminum housing with 1" diameter shaft. Got a cast iron spindle with 1 1/8" shaft for a Scag and a tapered hub from Amazon for like $60

Worked perfectly

ok my stupidity in this thread is showing but i'm starting to 'get it' a bit.

i changed my search to '48" walk behind mower' and yep, they all look basically the same although all kinds of brands..all seems to use that 14hp kawasaki motor.

i'll keep my eyes open for something more local. probably not worth it to drive 4+ hours round trip (plus beg my FiL for his 5x7 trailer).

i'm guess these are too heavy to lift and at a minimum will need a tailgate i can drop or a couple 2x4s to get it on board.

no way this would fit in any SUV right?

they all have very heavy fab steel decks. You can push one up on boards. Will not go in an suv.

Won't fit in SUV. Will need ramps. Still be careful though.

hey just found a lesco 36" for $300 local. think I can get that one in the back of my 4runner?

downside of 36" over 48"? its the same 14hp kawasaki and i'm thinking it will be ample to do the job for me considering I'm doing it now with a non-self-propelled red briggs and stratton that i bought 10 years ago.

2 blade instead of 3. Should suit you just fine. Still too big and heavy to get into a 4 runner. Plus the handle assembly does not fold down at all.

A 36 will cut 2 to maybe 2.5 times faster than 21" propelled. Especially in 5th gear with a sulky. You'll still need a trailer.

ztrs are way worse on the body. Like I said, rough terrain on a sulky/velky all you do is bend your knees like in a boat in rough seas.

No not part I ordered. Probably just needs new jackshaft outside bushings.

Made a deal! He agreed to $300. Meeting at home Depot to drive it around and I'll pick up a $25 trailer while I'm there to make it easy to bring it home.
