dAmn, the commercial grade? I thought about one but couldn't justify the cost, plus electric clutch, the drive system, weight, etc spooked me.
Yup... tranny is a piece of shite

Yea i knew buying a push mower with 2 blades and multiple belts would likely bite me in the arse. This will be the first and only time I spend $400 to fix it. Next time it's going to the curb

if you're not in any kind of hurry you can find one. And yes, that's the same motor that's on my mower.
Posted on 5/31/17 at 9:17 am to meauxjeaux2
do you have that little doohickey that attaches behind it that you stand on? does it have enough power to go up hills with that or should i just stick to walking behind it?
Posted on 5/31/17 at 9:31 am to CAD703X
Sulky/velke. If you have smaller than a 48" and matching motor typically the power isn't there. Especially up hills

i have the 1 wheel Velky. Yes id absolutely does. Mine is the wheel belt drive. That's what you want. The hydros are unnecessary and very costly to maintain. Mine has the 5 speed Techumse Peerless transmission with reverse.

That sounds like a death trap.

quote:motor has nothing at all to do with the motors ability to pull a rider. The wheel drive belts tension is the only thing. The gearing in the transmission is just way too high to pull the motor down.

i have no idea what any of that means. did you buy this separately? i think of this as a little metal pole that connects to the mower with a plate you stand on with 2 wheels.
please talk to me like i'm 3 on this

Velke/sulky is what you are talking about.
He has a belt drive mower. The mower is propelled by a belt on the side of the mower. There are typically 5 gears.
The other option is a hydraulic powered mower but there's pumps to maintain and they're heavier. But they do have an actual reverse and you can choose speed easier and more precisely.

correct. The Velky/sulky attached with 2 bolts to the rear of the motor and you stand on it.
It's also way easier on your body on rough surface. Think standing with your knees bend for a rough boat ride.

Is that the one you have? How much did it cost? Looks like something that shouldn't cost over $100 if it's just a metal plate and a wheel.
I will probably not use it in the beginning while I learn how to wield my new found mowing power.
$600 is 6 months worth of yard care if we paid for it so this thing will be an easy sell to the ball and chain.
Very excited.

that's the exact same mower i have. Now, you don't need to be looking for only Lesco brand mowers. Scag,Exmark,Toro and a bunch of other manufacturers make belt drive walk behinds as well

but then i can't come on here and beg you for advice

Sure you can. They're all very similarly made with just a handful of different engines. Especially belt walkbehinds, been around for years, basically the same
