Ive heard of peeps diving for cats but dont get how the fishing for other fish is non existant?
I tryed bass fishing the shoreline a couple years ago. Water clarity was great. Stumps everywhere but didnt get a bite.

Sounds just like Indian Creek.

I've caught plenty of smaller bass and reds but it has been a few years, like 10 actually.
10-15 years ago we caught a ton of specks but the salinity has changed.

I moved out of LA ~8 years ago, and this saddens my heart.

When I was a teenager, we used to do great on reds, and if they weren't biting, bass were.

I just dont understand how des almands and verret have fish but not maurepas. Tidal influenced freashwater lake? I guess all that swamp water comming out of maurepas swamp is stagnant.

Well, this was the mid 90's, but I would do well with Rattle Traps on both.

Garhole of Louisiana is why.

Really, I think it has to do with the changes in water throughout a given year. It's a unique place in the fact it can't make it's mind up on what type of ecosystem it is. It has a little of everything, but not a too much of any one thing. Now that being said, plenty of catfish and gar.

I catch bass regularly along the shore line near Blind River. It just gets really shallow there. However, if you find grass/lilly pads, then frogs/plastics work well.

When the salinity is up (no rain for an extended period of time), you can catch reds/drum and some specs on the Manchac side. Very rarely(but it does happen) the salinity gets high enough to pull them to the Blind River side.

I have, however, lived right near the lake my entire life. And there has been MANY MANY trips catching nothing to find the fish.

One last thing, I've never seen the size fish in the area as you'll see in Verret and others.

I fish it and I-55 a lot.
There are bass and reds.
You got to learn the lake and stumps go out farther than people think.
Now bass size biggest out of maurepas I have caught is 4-1/2 pounds while avg size is 1lb or 2lbs on larger size. Mostly those Kentucky bass which pound for pound fight harder than a northern or Florida bass.

I have caught speckled trout and white trout but it's been a few years.

If they ever open up a spillway from the Mississippi River into Lake Maurepas that fishery would be one of the top places in Louisiana.

FYI last time bass which are small was good was when the Bonnet Carre spillway was open in 2011.

Im not calling you a liar, but you did not catch kentucky bass in Lake Maurepas. And if you did run upon one accidentally, it was a tournament fish that was released at the launch I guess

Certain times it holds redfish. Or it did a couple years ago.
