We are looking at a house, the seller will leave whole house generator with a full price offer. Is it possible to move a generator and reinstall it at another residence?
I would think with crane costs and labor it might be easier to just purchase another one.
Thanks

Is it a 15,000 sqft house?

It shouldn't weigh more than 400lbs or so.

I've got a 17kw Kohler and it weighs about 420.

No it’s about 3000 sq ft. I’m not familiar of the weight of a generator that size

Make him a reasonable offer if u like the house and state generator stays. Call his bluff. Generator itself is 2-3k depending on size as won’t be able to remove transfer switch or wiring which is half the cost. I’d bet he’s not gonna pull it to save a few grand. Now if it’s a 30kw liquid cooled than may be another story as those are upwards of 10-15k

Great information- the house checks all the boxes for our wants. The generator is just a extra bonus.

Does he have maintenance records? Regular startups?

A lot of people like the idea of a whole home generator, but most never do the upkeep.

Id call his bluff and just replace with a new one of he takes it. That transfer switch isnt going anywhere.

Hell we did one for a grocery store and they didn't even start it up until 6 or 7 months after they opened.

Can you save more than this on a lower price? Installation will cost you money but removal will cost him money also.

Need to know what kind and size and age on generator. All that varies cost. I have a 22kw liquid cooled it took a lift to get it off the truck. It weighs 950 lbs. Air cooled are much lighter.

Is it really the whole house or just an A/C unit, fridge and a couple of lights?

What in the house is gas?

3000 s.f. houses would rarely require a generator bigger than 17-20 kw. These will usually be air-cooled, which means they won't weigh very much.

We are a Generac dealer and install them on occasion. It takes 3-4 people to lift one off a trailer and onto the slab.

year make and model generator. depreciation, maintanence, etc... so many things you are leaving unanswered for us to guide you the value of this generator.

Make him an offer on the damn house you deem fair per sq ft of comps, and include the damn generator.

1) get make/model/etc and do some research on the value of the genset sold used
2) decide what youd be willing to pay for the house w/o the genset
3) make an offer for that number ($X.00) plus the low value of the genset

the seller can then decide what to accept

a "full price" offer with the genset thrown in conceals the actual value of the genset
