Who has rebuilt a floor jack?

My buddy gave me this older floor jack that is mid-grade quality, but it wouldn't pump up when you try and lift any amount of weight. It was full of fluid, so I am thinking it is the seals.

The internal ones are gonna be extremely hard to get out, and the ones on the bolts, etc are hard and gritty. Should I replace them all, or just do half?

I don't enjoy dealing with POS tools. That is akin to buying a shitty weedeater with the expectation of it breaking in two years and replacing it again

I don't see the risk vs reward being in your favor to rebuild it.

You already said it's mid grade. Buy a new one cheap ass.

Bunch of lazy mf'ers in this thread. I don't have $200 to be spending on a damn floor jack

So next time my light bulb goes out, throw out the whole fixture, right?

I guess I am gonna let this thread sink into the abyss of old OB threads. No useful info whatsoever

Motion industries should have the seals. As far as the rebuild, I helped my dad rebuild one when I was a teenager. Don't remember much but you need the right tools. Snap ring pliers of different shapes and sizes I think.

Just picked up a few o-rings from AutoZone. Gonna leave the internal seals alone.

Remembering where these check balls and springs go is going to be a challenge though. Damn woman stepped on the piece of cardboard that I had them all organized on

Here is a thread on Q/A on rebuilding a floor jack. I haven't done it yet, but if I had a older floor jack I'd be all over it

Needs to be said at least once in this thread: Never trust a floor jack and put any part of your body underneath a car that isn't on jack stands.

Unless you get a mid-grade floor jack someone else doesn't want anymore and partially rebuild it using You Tube as your guide.

That is a floor jack you can trust.

Sign up at garagejournal.com

Then look for a user named HiBall and send him a pic of your jack. He can tell you everything you need to know. The guy has forgotten more about hydraulic jacks than most people will ever learn about them.

I normally do, but had hydraulic fluid all over my hands, so I didn't. Really regretting that now. It's all in a 1gal plastic bag now
