Sheriff Dusty Gates wasn't having any of it. He called in the Monroe SWAT, the Ouachita Parish Sheriffs SWAT and the Louisiana State Police SWAT.

UPDATE: Union Parish shooting suspect in custody

UNION Parish - LATEST:
A quiet morning in a quiet neighborhood turns chaotic
The union parish sheriff's office got a lot more than they were expecting when they arrived at this trailer on buck drive.
Around 9 a.m. Union Parish came to serve an arrest warrant for Gary Sims Jr. He answered them with gunfire.
"The deputy at that point and time called for assistance deputies responded subject barricaded himself in the house an attempt was made to make contact with him he would not respond"
That's when they called for back up and a lot of it. Special units from the state police, Ouachita Parish and Monroe rushed to the scene.
"The sheriff's office called and said they needed some assistance so we sent our swat team along with several of our regular troopers to assist in the apprehension of the suspect"
Hoping to wait Sims out, talking wasn't working, police made a move to end the standoff.
"After several hours of negotiation an attempt was made to extract him from the house by deploying gas [and] several rounds of gas were shot into the house and he later came out the back door and was apprehended," Gates said.
State Trooper Michael Reichardt calls this one a win win. Everyone, including the Sims, walked away from the scene safely.
"The suspect is going to be taken to jail [and] that's how we want all these standoffs and barricaded suspects to end you know we don't want any fatalities," he said.
UPDATE (1:00 P.M. 4/11/17): KTVE/KARD has just received reports that the shooting suspect is in custody.
Gary Simms Jr. was arrested around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday after being surrounded by law enforcement since about 9:00 a.m.

Believe it or not not long ago that guy was a model citizen with a good job and family. Had the world by the tail. Then he bought a crossbow. There's a lesson to be learned here fellows.

Ive never wanted to be GI Joe. I actually grew up wanting to be Farmer Joe.
But you bet your sweet arse that im not putting myself out in the open to approach a house where a barricaded suspect is shooting at the police from. I don't give a shite if they give me an armor plated limo or a fricking M1 Abrams to shield me. They can even paint that fricker pink and put rainbows on it if the green and black triggers you.

Yeah. We wouldn't the police to have something that stops them from being shot. I never figured out the Hate for an armored vehicle. It's not like the vehicle hurts people. Would you like it more if it was shaped like a pickup truck?

And it's not like they are riding around in them for patrol, just high risk situations. I guess they shouldn't wear vests either because those originally came from the military.
