I was looking into the 6.5 as well and saw your post about that, that a nice group! So this steel case ammo for the 6.5, is it not the same as with the 223s where its not advisable to shoot, or is the 6.5 different?

6.8spc - I like rock river arms, 120gr Hornady SST - excellent combination at least for me.

.300 Blackout- 110 gr Barnes.
I bought it on a whim a few years ago for shits and grins- my little boy was 6 at the time.
I soon realized that he could handle the AR platform effectively because of the collapsible stock and low recoil. By 7 years old, he was decent enough on the bench that I thought he could hunt with it.
The stock mil-spec trigger was too heavy and creepy for a child, so I put a Timney drop-in in ours- other than that it's a totally stock M&P 15 with a 16" barrel.
He took his first deer with it on January 8th of this year and dropped her dead at the feeder- I believe the fit of the rifle, with a good trigger, short barrel for ease of handling, all contributed to him being able to make a good shot.
Yes, the .300 has limitations at range- but when is a kid really going to take a deer at greater than 150 yards anyway? His shot was 125, and I'm not comfortable with him going much longer than that.
Last week, I shot the gun off of sandbags with the above mentioned ammunition and pulled a 5/8" 3 shot group at 100 yards- I really believe in the round and the gun.

I'm using a $99 Anderson barrel. After 150 rounds I've already saved enough $$$ to buy another barrel. I'm no operator throwing 1000's of rounds down range a year. I didn't build my 6.5G as a rifle to mag dump down the range. I might put a couple of hundred downrange a year and usually at a slow deliberate rate of fire. Also 6.5 Grendel is easier on a barrel than 223/5.56. Operates at a much lower pressure and velocity.

This will be my main deer rig this year. I built one for my son to use in the future. Everything i have read about the 110 gr barnes tac-tx has been positive and should work great within 150 yds.

You are correct. A 308, or any of it's derivatives, will require an AR-10 platform, NOT the AR-15 platform you've specified you wanted to use.
