Low end scopes can be good depending on your needs. Get a Nikon. They are cheap, lifetime warranty and great glass that compares to Leupold. Later on if you want to get a better scope you can swap them out. Skip the Simmons and Tasco. They fog up and arent nearly as clear as others.

Remington 700 30-06 cant be beat. I have a Remington 700 .270 that probably has a few thousand rounds through it. The rifling in the barrel is worn out. You can barely see it but it shoots factory 130gr Core-Lokts straight true all day.

They suck equally

I'd get either 700 or another brand.

Oh, I wasn't planning to buy one. I just wanted to know which was the bigger failure for Remington.

I think its a general consensus that the 700 (also the youth model 7) series is the only Remington with solid reviews... that's my impression at least.

I remember the 710 and the 770 both getting all the gun mag hype, and they both turned out to be shite.

I'd get a stainless Savage .30-06 or .308. Put a $300-$400 Vortex on it and you have a pretty good setup out to 500 yards or so

Nope, we got to page 3 without anyone questioning his more than adequate choice of caliber.

I'm very happy with my Weatherby Vanguard. Didn't cost a fortune, and hasn't ever failed me.
