Finally get a chance to chase some fish this weekend. First time in too damn long. Bringing some friends from Birmingham.

Has west or east of the river been hot lately? I’ve never felt so uninformed on where the fish are in my entire life. I hate being a yankee up here.

Well, I was going to go down to Grand Isle, but looks like the last two keepers may have been caught this past weekend…

Might try anyway though; could get lucky!

On a serious note, I’ve been hearing lots of good reports coming from west timbalier… [tough area to fish recreationally though unless you know where you’re going]

* Comment referring to East, not West. Oops!

I caught 2 trout all weekend in grand isle. I fished the beaches, reefs, jettys, grass flats, pumping stations and barges. All of which were on the exterior or near the islands.

People who fished the outer edges of the marshes, and the rockwalls in the outer marshes including the small islands deep inside the bays caught decent hauls. I saw a few charter captains come in for lunchtime with a wheelbarrow full of +3lb fish, there are some absolute hammers around the exterior marshlines. It was run and gun fishing though, from the guys I talked to they never caught more than 3 fish in one spot.

Me and my buddy gave up looking for trout after my ipilot remove broke around lunchtime Sunday morning and proceeded to drift fish for shark in caminada pass. Caught a 4.5 ft sand bar and a 4 ft black tip, wasn't a great haul but it was more fun than catching catfish.

Gonna post this as a fishing report as well.

I've was fishing cocodrie and traveled to west timbalier to sight see one day. What makes it so hard to fish for a recreational guy?

Namely knowing where the rocks are around the outer bays… they’re shallow and submerged and can ruin your day quick.

The interior bays and marshes are no different than west timbalier.

I’ve always disliked august for fishing… it’s hot and you end up catching more school trout throwbacks than anything. You had mentioned fishing the beach; typically, if the beach is rough, head to the bays and you can pull together a limit.

I've taken 2 trips to Venice in the last week, bass and reds to be caught, but the river is now rising due to the rain in Kentucky area. It will be rising until next week, but it's a slow rise.

Probably start at the short rocks and head east from there.

Caught 22 trout in similar conditions a couple weeks ago. (If the forecast holds up). Mostly on plastics under a cork. Didn’t want the live bait.

Same plan. Caught 200+ a few weeks back like this. Rigging up some corks now.

Yeah. We probably caught 75. But had to work through the small ones. Still a good day. Good luck.

Probably gonna go to Sam Rayburn this weekend. Haven’t been since February, but looking forward to some grass fishing.

After yesterday, I've got to regroup before I know where I'm going this week/weekend. Had a family member in town for the day and wanted to go fishing yesterday afternoon. Had a good weather window and high hopes. I was humbled bigly. just one of those days where nothing goes right.
