Im going to be booking a charter and bringing my girlfriend and her mom. I'm thinking numbers would be better than size for these rookies. Also, any good guides I should consider? Thanks

Since you're in Lafayette the best time of the year for Big Lake is the fall and Hackberry Rod & Gun is pretty good.

I've been to big lake dozens of times and I was thinking about trying somewhere new to me. Anywhere in the state.

Your options are unlimited if you have the whole state to choose from. Maybe Cocodrie, the winter and summer fishing is good.

Any guides in particular that stand out? Like I said we would be mainly after numbers.

I only use guides for offshore but I'll ask around for you. Also, try searching "cocodrie", I think there was a thread not long ago about charters there. Glassman recommended one in Buras not long ago but I can't find that post.

If Cocodrie, my boss used to take us with Coco Marina's outfit. They had a pretty cool trip, especially for rookies. We'd start out with specks at the platforms/islands, then on the way in, they would put us on some bull reds with cracked crab and heavier tackle, then we'd go inside and finish the day with puppy drum. They got it figured out pretty well.

I never cared much for it, because I'd rather just hit some specks and slot reds, but again, for rookies, it's a good trip. They have nice accomodations, too. It would also be a good trip for kids, considering we never had to wait long for fish.

eta---this is a summer trip.

That info I gave you is for "Cocodrie Charters". I would also suggest Capt. Brandon Carter "Reel Shot" out of Venice. He's very professional, and will put you on some nice trout. He's not much into reds, though. He fishes a 24' Champion. Also, Dufrene's Guide Service out of Golden Meadow. Chad's a redfish guy, but he knows where trout live too. He just don't like trout fishing as much. If you wanna learn how to sight fish for reds though, he's your man.

I was also entertaining the idea of a close in mangrove trip.

Tommy Pelligrin for an offshore trip out of Cocodrie is really good. You can stay at CoCo marina and book an inshore guide from there as well.

T Man Cheremie or Mike Guidry from the Larose/Cutoff area are both very good.
