I'm looking for reliable info on wave size/type and water temperature right in the surf.

Need to find someone that went the day before or something. It all depends on weather and a lot of other factors. Last year was miserable due to seaweed, when I did try to climb over it there were thousands of stingrays. I hope this year is better.

Don't think there's any automated weather reporting for the surf. There's a surface observation at the Coast Guard station that I use.

3 days SE Wind (blows green water in close)
1-3 days after N wind (lays the surf flat)

That's pretty much the formula here in the Galveston, TX area. That being said, we have surf cameras and swellinfo.com to give us up to date surf conditions.

I watch the weather and go fish and not rely on reports.
north wind = lays surf down
south wind = kicks it up.

I usually just check the tides @ C'pass and go from there. You can also check the wind buoy which the other guy posted above.

The weather is crazy down there in the summertime. Squalls pop up, out of nowhere and blindside you. Some of the best fishing I've had is between storms down there on crappy weather weekends. G'luck
