Are you guys really arguing about models, or is this hammer vs striker?

I vote both. My trigger can actually cock the striker though.

One thing I put zero stock in is a torture test for a self defense gun.

My guns are always clean and well maintained. Ill never be defending myself with a gun that's been dunked in salt water for 2 weeks

I am arguing against the 1911 as being the "Best" platform considering technological advances in firearms. It just doesn't do anything better than the guns listed below./

Sig 226
HK Mark 23
HK USP
Glock (and their clones)

Then you're arguing against a point that no one has made. I never said it was the best platform, I have said that it's just as capable as any other platform.

Hahahah! My brother was one of the Seals that was on the testing project in the nineties for what they'd be using handgun wise. Torture tests galore.

You have a brother who is a SEAL? Cool. I know plenty of Force Recon Marines who swear up and down by their 1911.

And it's funny that you cite results placing the Glock second when the SEALs ultimately went with Mark 23s, Sig 226s, and ultimately 1911s.

To my knowledge: Glocks do not meet the Military External Safety requirement. Glock will not modify to meet it.

18>9 says it's not as capable.

Plain and simple.

Know why the marines went back to the 1911?

Because one old general gets to decide it.

Are we about to have a "Know why i shoot a .45? Because they don't make a .46" conversation?

Because their operators wanted it. And that's not debatable. USMC armorers were routinely upgrading older Colt 1911 models for Recon and MARSOC units until the USMC finally decided to reinvest in the 1911 platform leading to the creation of the MEUSOC.

I suppose it was also your nameless general who forced individual operators to routinely work with Quantico armorers to upgrade, refine, and employ 1911 pistols for decades before the MEUSOC came into being?

9 rounds of 45acp > 18 9mm rounds. Try reading some combat after action reports and first hand accounts about the stopping power of the 9mm. You need 18 rounds when you can pump a guy full of them and have him truck on.

Right. For Marine's that pistol is a LONG tradition. It's understandable as long as you are being truthful about it and admit that it didn't have anything to do with it being a superior combat pistol and everything to do with emotional attachment and a deep support structure already built in for that pistol.
