What is Your Opinion of Duck Hunting Opportunities in Other States vs Louisiana

Do you think that other states(Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas) offer better chances of killing quality ducks in larger numbers than Louisiana?
If so, which state and why do you believe that?

I think this is true in South Dakota if you can get pulled for a non resident license...

I hunted Realfoot Lake inTN this past season and the mallards were as thick as Mosquitos.

Grew up in LA duck hunting. Hunted private and public since I was a kid. Been living in AR for the last 13 years. I can honestly say that there is no comparison between the two. The duck hunting in Arky is so much better. Private ground can be leased at a fraction of the cost with way better results. The public ground up here is phenomenal with flooded timber with great access and facilities. Even the guys that come up to hunt with me agree that it's better. They say that the ducks just don't come to LA like in years past. Most of the mallards seem to stop before getting that far south. I'm not saying that the duck hunting is bad, but as far as mallards are concerned, there is no comparison. Just my opinion of course.

I've hunted in Kansas several times and it's leaps and bounds better so it seems. The mallards anyhow. They just don't move south. Changes in farming practices (mainly no til or no fall til) leaves much more exposed grain. The weather doesn't allow much of the waste grain to sprout or rot. We were hunting corn and bean fields for geese in mid jan and it had been below freezing for 10 days straight and it was still full of mallards around. They were coming in with the geese and we had to make sure not to shoot them as season was closed. If you kicked the stubble around you could find plenty waste grain. In older farming methods that grain and stubble would have been plowed under in the fall.
Also duck hunting has become a big business in lots of area so more food is planted and or left for ducks. There is no chance of them running out of food. Only snow cover will really push those alarms down in mass quantities. JMHO anyhow

Reelfoot can be just as miserable as any place you guys hunt in LA. Lots of pressure, busy every day of the season, and will cost you big money for a decent to good blind.

My family lives in Brinkley and Clarendon and other surrounding areas. My farm is in the outer edge of Clarendon near Monroe.

Whole lot of duck species other than mallards.
I probably wouldn't ever pay for a trip to Arky just because of the pressure it gets now, but I'd be stoked to get to MO or KS to shoot thick mallards. I'm pretty happy killing limits of greys down here though. I know the marsh and I like the marsh. It's home yo.

I agree with MM
There are also lots of farms/hunters that intentionally leave crops standing in multiple fields for their own hunting use. I don't like it, but it's not illegal.

What area were yall hunting?

I have a strong urge to hunt Kansas, maybe next year.
I dont mind picking of ones and twos around here every year but I want one of the blowout hunts we used to experience 10-15 years ago.

I'm looking into it right now and I'm not getting positive feedback. I've been reading another forum specific to Kansas duck hunting and the guys on there act like there isn't a bird in the state.

Kansas can be feast or famine depending on weather and water. Okie is where it is at for good Mallard shooting in the Central Flyway.
