I've been commuting across the spillway to and from work for almost 6 years now and have always wondered what this is or what it used to be. Any of you educated fellas want to teach me something?

I've always called it the sea wall. Not sure what it actually is though.

I was told that it use to be a dock that the would use to transport things to/from boats in the lake to the tracks. Not sure though. It's been the way it is now for years as as far back as I can remember it's was the same way

Old wave/tide break I've been told. Must be cypress. It's been there a long time.

It was for the Christmas Tree program. Where the Corp of Engineers used the trees to form a breakwall.

I didn't think they had that program 50 years ago? It been there at least that long.

I was told it was part of an old fishing pier. If you look at it on google earth you can see the old levee system close to this structure on the other side of I10.

I heard it was an old cattle chute they used to load cattle on barges for transport across the lake... and there are more than that one... at least that's what the people at turtle cove told us on a trip we took down there... who knows if its true or not

There's another stretch similar to that between the Tangi River and Tchefuncte known as the "Marcays". Have heard several stories about what their purpose was, but never anything conclusive.

nothing like doing 30 in your boat and hitting the remnants of a submerged piling.

I have always wondered about those too.

That is a old break water seawall. Was put up at the time when the spillway was being installed. Yep, I'm that old. There was one on the other side of the spillway at one time.

I am sixty years old and lived in Little Woods whereas this same kind of breakwater seawall extends along the lake not protected by concrete seawall. While I cannot date it--it's only apparent purpose was to break wave action and to prevent erosion.

It has been there when my dad was a boy growing up [1940's] so it was placed there a long time ago.

It's the remnants of the west break wall at the lake side of the spillway levee end. On the east side (levee) the break wall still exists, it's just crushed rock and such.
