Looking to go this thanksgiving with my pops and wanting to know what some of the best locals are

I hunted with Hidden Valley Outfitters in 2011. Enjoyed it and killed a nice buck. They are in southeast Montana.
I know west Texas has some good mule deer hunts. Colorado has a ton. Nevada Arizona have some giants. So just depends on where you wanna go and what kind of buck you're after

Private or public land hunt? Some places have over the counter tags, some have lottery tags and some have landowners have tags. You are already probably too late for next year for lottery tags. So the question is, what is the best place to mule deer hunt where you can get tags for hunting next year.

If you are looking for DIY type hunt.
Wyoming and Colorado both have an abundance of OTC tags and plenty of BLM land to hunt. You just have to match up an area that has available tags with an area that has public land.
I hunted many of the public areas around Gillette, WY in 2010 and 2011... if you need some direction on that area let me know.
I also hunted 1 time in the San Juan National forest just north of Mancos, CO a few years ago but we were targeting Elk on that hunt. I don't have as much experience in that area but I would be glad to share where we went.

My brother lives in Idaho, and he's done awesome on public land outside Mountainhome. Might be worth checking out.

Northern AZ has some monsters but their lottery system is crazy.

Yep...the best you can hope for now is OTC or private.

I would be content with a doe tag and hunt public land

You won't get a tag in the best places to hunt.

This is an EASY task in Wyoming... My dad drove up there to meet me and within 24 hours he had killed a mule deer doe and a pronghorn doe... Tags are fairly inexpensive also... I think they were both around $35.

Colorado or Montana if you want an adventure. Texas if you just wanna shoot a mulie.

It's not that easy unless you have a pile of money. Big mule deer are one of the most valued trophies in North America and the increase in predators and people in the west has hurt.
Arizona Strip is best. You won't draw. You won't draw the best Colorado units for years. If you have the money pile, here is the plan;
Mexico in January. Best pay to hunt there is.
Landowner tags for the Eastern Colorado Plains will turn up a giant.
I will say, an average mule deer looks huge to a whitetail hunter.
Also, major snow this year has resulted in a high winter kill in western Colorado and western Wyoming.
Look up Don Lemon.

I just got back from Pagosa Springs, Co. this morning. Saw plenty of mule deer. As others have stated, you have missed the draw deadline for most states. I do not think you can buy doe tags in Co. I have hunted private land in Wy. for about 15 years. Doe tags are getting hard to get in many units as the Game Dept. scaled them back to re-build the herd from winter-kill and disease. Left-over tags will be posted in July. IF you can get one, I would always go private first. Texas would be a good option. Tags are otc and Nov is late in most western states.
