Yamaha, enough said. 5 year warranty, and from what ive heard from my Yamaha guy who does work on mine, less than 2% are sent back for warranty issues

I think Yamaha is the clear front runner for reliability.
I know several work boats run Hondas with good luck, but I think they're very heavy and service is harder to come by.

I've riden on boats w Yammy 300, Merc Verado 300, and Suzuki 300. All purred like kittens. If I were buying, it would be on who had best warranty deal.

We've had a zook forever, but Yammy is dominating the market. 2nd is verados probably.

I have no experience with the new Yamaha or mercs but the Etec impressed me as did the Suzuki.

got checked by greenjeans last week on the water...running a large triton center console w a mercury verado on the back...as they were leaving I asked how they liked the rig...they said "love the boat but the motor is only good for an anchor"...
all was in order on my end...

Go to Venice marina and see what all the offshore charter captains run. 90% of them are Yamahas. That says a lot.

This, and the crabbers at other port towns. Honda and Suzuki are good engines but have less dealer network. A buddy recently repowered a bay boat with a 250 and went with Suzuki because price was good but cheaper than yamaha and think a good bit of warranty.
Yamaha's for me....have had a 25, 40, 150 and 250
