What is best way to prevent your trail cameras from getting stolen?

We are having problems with theft of trail cams on our deer lease. I'm putting out trail cams (with chain and locks) this weekend. Anyone have suggestions on preventing theft or possibly a way to catch these thieves in the act?
I thought about setting up a sting. I could mount one trail camera up high in a tree taking pictures of the bait cam.

I would set up traps to get them
Plus aim cheap trail cameras towards your cameras to see who is doing the theft
Hate you are having to deal with this

your idea is good.
I would also booby trap the bait cam. Like a bear trap under some leaves below the bait cam.
F a thief.

I know someone who used old broken trail cams as dummies and mounted real ones up high in a tree pointing down at the camera. This way, even if they do steal it and you can't tell who it is/get a clear picture, you won't have lost a camera.
Also, I've had success by writing "Property of LA Dept. of WLF; GPS Tracking# 1234-56-AQ45" on the camera either in permanent marker or making it look more official with a label maker. That's helped on public land.

Dig deep hole in front. Sharpen bamboo and stick down in hole, facing up. Lightly cover. Gets em every time.

That might also help with the hog population!

One thing that I've done after a few thefts, is to put my cameras in a nearby thicket, and bait that area. Its hard to find, away from the stand/feeders, and I get the pics of the deer in the nearby area, and haven't had one stolen doing this. Now, out in the open by my feeders, they don't last long.

This thread makes me thankful of where I hunt. Have never had a camera stolen. Been a few times that id swear someone erased the pictures but never stolen

Transplant wasp nest into dummy camera and drill holes so their friends can join

I have 6 total cameras, I had them all on scout trails until this past weekend. I have established my 3 stands and now have 2 cameras per stand. one facing a trail or feed the other is hidden facing the other for theft purposes. I have lost a lot of cameras, feeders, and stands over the past 5 years. I now take no chance.

You can buy a cable lock at Wal Mart for 10 dollars. That is what I use and I have never had one stolen.

I've got the covert cameras that send pics to your phone. If you set the trigger fast enough it would send a pic of the person as they walk up to it. They're pretty high though and you've got to pay a monthly data plan on it for it to be able to send pics. So having multiples would probably not be very feasible.
Putting your cameras up somewhere other than over a feeder or feed pile is also a good deterrent like another poster said. If they can't see it they wont be able to steal it.
I've had good luck getting pictures over a salt lick way back in the woods on a small deer trail this year, so you may could try something like that.
