What is beast way for a novice to get into hunting

I haven't hunted since I was a kid, but have recently had a desire to get into it again. I have access to guns, but past that I'm totally green. Any good websites or books/videos would be helpful.
My son has recently started to talk about hunting (he's 5, so it must be from other kids at school), and if it's something he wants to do I feel like I need to get started now in order to take him in the coming years. I have the means to join a club if that is the way to go, but I don't know anything about clubs and what to look for or avoid. Or if hunting public land I'm guessing I'd need to be knowledgeable on where to set up as far as being near a river bank or opening in the woods etc.
I'm interested in hunting just about anything as far as species goes.

Why type of hunting are you interested in?

Start hunting wild hogs with a spear.
j/k - yeah, I concur with others who suggest finding someone who hunts what you want to hunt and go with them.

Find a friend that hunts. Attend QDMA, DU & Delta waterfowl events to meet people if you don't know anyone who hunts

What kind of hunting?
Deer
duck
squirrel
rabbit
dove
or all the above? Ideally you would need a shotgun and rifle. But a shotgun would do for all depending on circumstances.

I'm interested in hunting everything. I have a shotgun and rifle. Well actually my dad does but he lives 10 minutes from me and have access to them anytime I want them. My dad used to hunt and is talking about going again but I wouldn't say he's a seasoned hunter or anything. I guess I need to find someone to let me come with them and learn more that way.

I think the best way to start, especially if a child is involved, is with squirrels.
Get access to a patch of woods, or head to a local wma and stalk them with a shotgun or 22.
If you and your son enjoy the outdoors together, then progress to deer or duck.

hire a reputable outfitter for a couple or three hunts, put the kid on some game and while you're in the blind or at the camp, pick the guide's brain about how to get started.
then get involved with local clubs and conservation groups.
most importantly, get outdoors every chance you can get.

This is exactly right. Find a good guide and pay for a few hunts. Also, if you have a friend that hunts pik their brain and see if you can make a hunt with them. Explain to the guide your desire to learn. Also, you'll be required to take a hunter safety course if you haven't already done so so contact local law to find a course near you. I live near Lake Charles so you can contact one of these 2 goose guides for a good start.
Eric Roux
Or Specklybelly Goose Club
Both will charge about $300 a gun for a goose hunt.
Another nice ranch in West Texas for guided deer hunting is Escondido Ranch.
Before you spend a lot of money to join a club take a year or 2 and book several guided hunts. You can take your son on a few of these to watch the hunt when he's 7-8 yrs old depending on his maturity level. Skeet shooting is also a great way to learn how to handle a gun.

Gotta go with squirrels on this one. Cheap sport that is great for kids. Check out the local WMA's and take off walking. May wanna bring good gps just to be safe. Probably not a whole lot of people squirrel hunting this time of year. They should be easy to spot with the leaves gone. Great to eat too!
