re: What do you think about this New Mexico property?

National Forest or National Park inholdings are pretty awesome - private land in the middle of a national park or forest.
I've looked at a few, but utilities were a huge challenge (and expense). None of them were particularly expensive.
Even Yellowstone Park has some inholdings.
Edit: The best tracts are the ones wedged against hard to access national forest/park property (where the only ready access to the national park/forest property is through your property.

Unless you are retired or can fly there on a whim, property within a 3-4 hour driving radius from your house makes more sense imo

Depends. If you want mountains, you won't find them within 3-4 hours of where I live. I would agree with you that if you can't spend the summers there, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Trust me I would love to have bought a mountain property... ended up with 130 acres in south Mississippi lol

Yeah. I am on the hunt for some property I can build an off grid trapper cabin. Fly fishing will be my aim. No clue where to look.

Re: off grid trapper cabin - There is a place in N.M. called the "Cummings Latir Mountain Ranch." It is or was for sale, and you can google it. It had a great mountain cabin, fully off the grid, that would be a good guide for you. They have some pictures, if the sale listing is still up (I didn't look). If I recall, the owner is from Louisiana.
There was a ski resort behind it that closed, then has reopened on a very limited basis. The mountain cabin on the Latir is just on the other side of the mountaintop from the former ski resort.

Some man built a giant house on an island in Flathead Lake, Montana (I think it is the largest in Montana). He ruined that island.
Is that the Lee jeans guy? I heard that for some reason.
Eta- didn't realize this was a real estate plug bump.

I'm very curious as to what she does for a living and how did she acquire such wealth at such an early age.

It was almost as if the elk learned to go where they weren't being hunted.
They aren't stupid by any means.
Wallowa national forest in Oregon is like that. Elk and deer come right into the state campground and aren't very scared.
Btw, I can help with learning off the grid stuff.
